HLLLYH (HEL-ya, hal-uh-LOO-yuh, or hil-EE-aitch) is new band born from the ashes of the Mae Shi that plays high-energy, chaotic pop songs and delivers interactive live spectacle via custom-synced videos, confetti guns, parachutes, and realtime makeup tutorials.
The Mae Shi was a multi-headed, hyperactive, ultra-DIY monster on Kill Rock Stars/5RC that terrorized California throughout the 2000s. HLLLYH is no nostalgic revival, though. HLLLYH starts with the Mae Shi’s spazzy guitars, blown-tire rhythms, end-times fixations, and pop maximalism. It then adds brighter colors, sharper lines, secret harmonies, and hidden messages.
HLLLYH’s first album, URUBURU, was originally intended to be the final Mae Shi record. However, it felt more like the first chapter of something new than the final chapter of the Mae Shi. So HLLLYH the band was born, making URUBURU both a beginning and an end.
HLLLYH have spent the last two years handing out endless high fives all over their home state of California and are excited to visit Florida for the first time.
