Descartes a Kant is a Mexican group with a long history and a constantly evolving discography that fuses eclectic musical influences: experimental pop, avant-garde rock, punk and electronica, among others. Their work encompasses some of the most radical albums, lyrically and musically, in Mexican rock, thanks to her challenging musical structures and rabid feminine perspective. The influences include: Mike Patton, The Locust, Devo, Talking Heads, St. Vincent, Sonic Youth, Veruca Salt, Le Tigre, Hole, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Laurie Anderson, Kate Bush, Queen, Pixies, Dirty Projectors , Frank Zappa , Marnie Stern, Otoboke Beaver, The Dresden Dolls, Sleigh Bells, among others.
Live, the band’s peculiar stagings, both precise and wild, are enriched with theatrical elements and digital cinematic techniques, enveloping us in a surreal, challenging and sophisticated narrative. Making their own scenic-musical language within the experimental alternative world and shouted from the viscerality and female leadership, the band has gained respect and appreciation from artists and niche media that is difficult to please and with little female and Ibero-American representation. Their work has taken them to festivals such as Roskilde (Denmark), Iceland Airwaves (Iceland), White Nights (Russia), Rock al Parque (Colombia) among others, and in turn opening for bands like Sonic Youth, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, The Melvins, St Vincent and Mr Bungle. During the pandemic, the group faced several momentous changes in its lineup; a reconfiguration that led to an artistic rebirth of the project. And this is how this post-destruction stage begins.
Descartes a Kant (DAK) returned in 2023 with a new studio album titled After Destruction. Released in all physical and digital formats, this conceptual work proposes a narrative arc exploring the cycles of existential creation and destruction. After Destruction portrays psychic discomfort in a compulsively hyper-communicative but emotionally isolated society, with a retro-futuristic aesthetic, destructive guitars, synthesizers and soulful melodies. Lampooning contemporary emotional consumerism, the band integrates an automaton character into their lineup: The DAK, an innovative machine designed to repair emotional damage, which appears through interludes both on the album and in the live act. Looking to restore your life after a catastrophe? Turning your pain into a work of art has never been easier.
In 2024 and 2025 the band started releasing a video collection of the full album in their youtube channel, and started playing shows in support of this album with four tours in Europe, two in the United States and two in Mexico, playing in festivals such as Pohoda (Slovakia), InMusic (Croatia) Aftershock (United States), Pitchfork Music Festival (Mexico), Fusion (Germany), Louder than Life (United States), Rock al Parque (Colombia), Avernax Festival (Denmark), Fekete Zaj Festival (Hungary), The Fest (United States), Trans Musicales (France). In 2025 the band released a KEXP Live Session. In 2026 the band started working on a new album with upcoming tours in USA, Mexico and Europe.
