Drunken Boat embody a lot of the elements I loved about the gritty pop-punk pioneered by East Bay bands, aided and abetted by Lookout! Records in the late 80’s and early 90’s . Gravel throated earnest anthems about the politics of the heart, their community and the world at large with a sense of urgency and meaning. The sort of music that provides the heart, soul and conscience to a community that can sometimes feel like it has none. Yeah…all of that and a decent portion of fun garnish. If you asked a cave man to explain it he would say “Boat make boom boom scream scream me like”.
