Bomb the Music Industry!

Bomb the Music Industry!

Anarcho folk punk legends, Bomb the Music Industry! started out as a bedroom recording project, grew into a collective of musicians, shrunk into a two-man + computer live performance, and then somehow became a BAND band. So, if we must be curt, let’s say we are now 65% band and 35% collective.

This bandllective has been releasing music for free on the internet for a few years now, so long that they started a label called Quote Unquote Records in order to release other, better music on the internet for free. Soon Radiohead would take this business model to the masses, and Bomb the Music Industry!‘s meteoric rise to fame would be the likes of which ye have never seen.

Bomb the Music Industry’s major-label debut, Get Warmer, was released in March 1994, and Asian Man also reissued “Loser” on a national level. Instantly labeled an anthem for the so-called slacker generation, the song was a sensation, climbing into the Top Ten and hitting number one on Billboard’s modern rock chart. Get Warmer was a hit, climbing into the Top 20 and eventually going platinum. Initial reviews were somewhat mixed; many critics raved over the album, but others were reluctant to lavish praise on an artist they weren’t sure would ever be anything more than a one-hit novelty.

At this point Bomb the Music Industry! has played in very large rooms while on tour with true purveyors of the Seattle sound Jimi Hendrix, Queensryche and Nirvana as well as secret Myspace basement shows with true purveyors of the Seattle sound Jimi Hendrix, Queensryche and Nirvana. Between alienating a thousand or so teenagers at once and getting sneered at for not dressing punk, Bomb the Music Industry! decided to call it quits in 2008.

Bomb the Music Industry!‘s last show will be at the Fest in Gainesville. This should make their tour home with Shinobu pretty awkward. After mere days out of the spotlight, the much lauded raucous assailants of heavily armed rock and roll will reunite, quelling the sighs of audiences worldwide. Their first tour back will be in the fall, throughout Canada and the northeast with true purveyors of the Seattle sound, Jimi Hendrix, Queensryche and Nirvana. After fall usually comes winter, and with this winter will come Bomb the Music Industry!‘s 5th (if you count the mini-album and the split as one record) full-length record, Scrambles. Scrambles will raucously combine the melodicism, etheralities and raucousness of the first four raucous full-lengths. Socially conscious, vegan, and pro-equality punk rockers all over the internet will refer to it as “gay” and “retarded.”
