barriers? i get the thing behind barriers. there have alway been way to many people on stage the previous years.
BUT if you have a barrier, the security working that barrier should do their fuckin´job.
i saw a guy goin head first into the ground at the new top spot in the gap.
that guy didn´t look to good and security was just standing there. what the hell.

THIS. Happened to me at the Florida Theater, landed on my head cause no one catched me, wouldn't have happened if there was no barrier..

Other than having a substantial amount of money stolen out of my room at Paramount Plaza and one member of security at 8 seconds deciding that the best way to get my girlfriend from sitting on the pool table was to grab her ass and squeeze it really hard rather than tell her politely, the whole weekend was great

We stayed at the Plaza and never used the safe for our cash, you think it was the staff or some festers in your room?

Staff dude. We had the "Do Not Disturb" sign on our door at all times even when we were out festing but on the last day I took it off for some reason as we were heading downtown. When we got back late Sunday night the bed had been made and I noticed my bag that was hid down the side of the bed had been moved, had a look in there and my money had gone. Neither the hotel or the cops gave a shit

Shit! Sorry to hear about that, our safe was locked when we got there so we just kept our money in our cases, will be more carefull next year.

that really pissed me of.
all the volunteer securitys did a great job!
hired security is always trouble.

please, no venue next year. just keep the new top spot (awesome!!!) and get rid of the venue. just don´t book those "huge" bands who cost way to much anyways and everyone can see them all year.

Fest!
i had an awesome time and love you all

This finally makes sense why you started the rumor that the Venue wasn't going to be used this year: you have a personal grudge against the place!

hahaha, no. it was just 4 different bands who actually got to play the venue this year, who told me that while they toured europe.

Loved most everything as always.

What sucked bigtime for me was coming back to my room at the Holiday Inn to dump and walking into a ceiling leaking raw sewage from the room above.

I missed most of the big bands Friday night because of this and I received no reimbursement from Holiday Inn nor were they able to relocate me to another (less infected) room.

Had a rad time other than that.

Whoever was in room 537, please be kind and let me know if you have any diseases such as Hep A/B/C or the likes!

The bartenders at The Florida Theater kept telling me tap water was only available at a different bar in the club. Eventually one of them walked with me over to the bar she had pointed out, and then the bartender at that spot tried to charge me $2.

I see that people are bitchin about barriers. I realize that some of the bands playing The Venue were pretty damn big but seeing Ceremony with a barrier was such a bummer. A fucking great time but a bummer nontheless.

I think it would be more fair to say you wouldn't have landed on your head if you hadn't been crowd-surfing in the first place...

The complaints about security are interesting because in my experience, it's fairly atypical behavior of any average non-DIY/for profit type venue security/staff anywhere in the country. 8 Seconds in particular: that place is obviously a country/redneck bar normally, so it's no surprise really that they wouldn't know how to handle a punk crowd (or even a "rock" crowd for that matter).

As a woman, I don't mind having my bag checked at a venue. That's totally fine and reasonable. It's when a security guard (male OR female alike) completely gropes me in every which way that I take issue with it. There's a venue in NYC where the guards are guilty of this and it's so uncomfortable. I'd rather a guard just check my bag rather than being completely groped and thankfully I have never had that issue at Florida Theater or any other Gainesville venues used during Fest.

I have plenty of issues with the Venue/Florida Theater but security is not one of them.

I only saw maybe ten bands. I consider that a pretty amazing feat considering over 300 bands played. While it is amazing, I also consider it "not that great."
