I remember Wayward Registration at previous fests. Rene, we're also not bragging. This about how the board used to be fun, and how we all used to have good times. I know where you live, we used to be neighbors. Remember that.

i think there's a few reasons for the lack of board interaction.

one, people use facebook now more than they have last year and the year before. in doing so, we can keep in contact with fellow festers year round without depending on the festboard.

two, there's definitely a gap between people who have gone to Fest multiple times and people who have only gone once, twice, or never before. it's the same as the difference between freshmen and seniors in high school. it's not that we can't co-exist or hang out, but there's definitely two different social environments overlapping each other.

three, for us repeat offenders, is there much that the festboard can offer us that we don't already know (generally) or haven't already experienced? the last three fests, i've care equally or more for seeing old friends and hanging out (while watching great bands) than i have for just seeing the bands.

when can we get Fest Vets membership cards? say anyone who's attended at least 5 Fests. perks could include discounted passes/ line skips/ free pbr/ etc.

Dude, anyone who's attended at least 5 fests should be able to figure out their own system of perks, just on the basis of knowing the territory and being able to get away with more....

the best part of this thread is that only old school festers have posted here, it makes me smile that we're still holding on, I joined the Facebook group for a little bit, was trying to give them advice on stuff and they were just being dicks, too many new kids going could be the reason for all this lack of board activity? are we growing up? this'll be my last Fest as next year I'll have two week vacation and need to travel the country/world, so if you see me give me a hug and make sure I'm having the best Fest... also me and Chewy were talking about this and I won't start a Fest sex thread because I don't want to jinx anything, but it does exist! Or it will when I get there this year!

when selling Fest tickets is the second biggest area on the board, you know something is terribly wrong, I apologize for my absence and I hope to see you all there

been to every one since Fest 4. definitely have my own ways and knowledge collected over the years that i have no intention of posting under the "lessons learned from previous Fests" thread.

ALSO:

i'm planning meet ups for fans of anti-chafing medication. it's at the Palomino friday night around 10pm. we can shoot pool and shit. there's a second one at the high dive sunday at 4pm. we can sit on the porch and drink Fest punch.

This seriously gets me every time I look at the board... The Fest is not sold out and a crap load of people trying to sell their tickets. We might be seriously looking at the last Fest this year.

I don't live there anymore, but now I'm reminiscing about all of our neighborly good times...

so as a Fest noob, what you guys are talking about is exactly why I've wanted to attend for the last 5-7 years... (never had the money or the time off before this year) the Friends, the Bands, and the booze, but Friends being first! THAT one thing is what made the Fest so awesome, without me ever experiencing it.

I am SO STOKED to meet as many people as possible. cheers'ing cheap beers enough to ruin 3 livers, and see bands that i would otherwise not get to see (small town problems).

as a Fest noob who would love to be-able to Fest Vet (+3) Thank you guys for keeping the Fest alive upto this point, don't give up on it now... I haven't been on the bitching and moaning FB page cause that wasn't what Fest seems to be about... and I'm sure that there was some of those people at prior fests but because the Fest board isn't as easy as FB it kept the bitching in check.

I can't wait to share a PBR or Fest Punch with you and scream-long with our favorite songs. from a noob to the Fest VETS its 1 week away! GET STOKED!!!

Who the fuck uses Facebook? Forums are where it's at...

And I think errveryone is all antsy and edgy and up on their high chair about shit because of the election and their impending doom coming in december, they want to feel like they make a difference in an uncertain world where they are largely insignificant. its not just Fest board, this whole year seems to have everyones panties twisted up in their bungholes. Personally i think they should all take a Midol and shut the fuck up... even that statement may be too PC for some folks..

About the Fest flakes who are raffling off their passes, awesome, shorter lines and the smell wont be as strong, though it is worrysome that a disproportionate number of folks will not be going, the dedicated ones will still be there to throw the fuck down next week, by dedicated i mean the Aussie and UK contingencies, those dudes throw down like fucking champions

To be honest, I think the saddest thing is that so many people who have been going forever are not anymore, and at least part of it is because "oh there is all these new people coming, shit is different from Fest 5, the kids aren't the same etc". I mean I've been going since 6 and yeah shit has changed but that's no reason to be down on it. If you're going to let new people at Fest who maybe don't get it yet get you down, there's not really anyone to blame but yourself. Would it kill anyone to give new festers some direction? Fest shouldn't be a good ol' boys club. It's for anyone who wants to have a good time and enjoy the best music scene in the universe.

Not trying to be a ball buster or anything but can we cut out all of the remember the good old days bullshit and just have a good time?

The board has been a bit sad this year but the key thing is that Fest will be just as awesome as ever, so not to worry.

Shit, most people don't even post here, even when the board was poppin it was still just a small fraction of the totality of the festites posting, I never saw much correlation between the board and the actual Fest.

Gainesville is a very transient place, so there's always lots of nostalgia about, or coming from, people who've left, not to mention the bands that don't play anymore or the clubs that have shut down. But Fest would be boring without the new people that show up every year, their enthusiasm is an important paet of,the recipe. Every year, I say, damn, Fest just isn't the same as last year, and that's always a good thing. If I had it all to do over again, I'd just get bored and want to do something else.

Damn, only a week now till this year's Fest becomes the good old days, too... "Do you all remember when bitching about the Fest board was still fun?"
