Hii fellow festies! I'm a 22 year old lady from the great state of michigan, traveling to Fest with a couple of friends. i'm super pumped and i have some questions since this is my first Fest.
is anyone else camping? we're staying at the state park but if i could just crash on someone's floor that might be easier...
is beer cheap in gainsville? can i just sneak some in to the venues?
should i bring my nice camera or will it be pummeled to death?
is it easy to get drugz or is everyone just drankin?
THANKS.

You can find most of the answers to these questions in other threads but
is anyone else camping? I think there was a dude offering his yard somewhere here.
is beer cheap in gainsville? can i just sneak some in to the venues? Sounds like beer is like $2 for a 'tall boy' and that sounds dirt cheap to me. Support your venues and don't sneak booze in.
should i bring my nice camera or will it be pummeled to death? If you're up front it would probably be best to bring an old shitty one you don't care about.
Hope this helps

THANKS. 1) I think camping out with Friends would totally make the weekend more sweet as long as the campground had a place for showers and such. 2) Beer is cheap, buy some leave it at your camp site for drinking while not at a show. Support the venues at Fest.. They have to deal with a lot of shit during our weekend, reward them. 3) I wouldn't recommend bringing your nice camera, people tend to throw and spill their beers a lot especially at The Venue (Florida Theater). Buy a few disposable cameras if you want pictures. 4) Drugs r bad mmmmkay. Of course some people will be doing drugs and I'm sure you can find some if you ask around enough. Though I suspect most will stick to beer.

In a nutshell, beer is cheap and you will most likely lose your Fest pass if you smuggle. Worse still, if a lot of people smuggle then Fest may lose their venue for next year.
In 6 years of going I've never been offered any illegal drugs and they're certainly not openly available as they are at UK festivals. Fest is for everyone but no one would deny it's fairly booze driven which is why I like it. I guess myself and friends aren't really qualified to give you a detailed answer as we're all piss heads!

THANKS.
Last year I just found an 8th on the ground walking to registration, but i dont think that had anything to do with Fest, Weed is everywhere in Gville, Where everywhere? who knows... Could be on the sidewalk... that was the third time that happened to me while in gainesville Dont sneak beers, your wristband is not worth a beer when tallboys are 2 bucks

DO NOT try and smuggle alcohol into a venue.
You are 22 and asking about drugs on a public message board - think about that for a second...

Well I'm sure it happens as it might anywhere you go any time but my point is, from what I've seen at least is, it's not what you would describe as a 'druggie' festival for want of a better word!

I'd hate to be staying real far from the action. I live about 5 miles from downtown, that's only acceptable to me because it's worth it for me to sleep in my own bed. If you take the time to enjoy the state park, then you'll just be missing out on Fest. Save some money and find a place to crash.
Sneaking anything into the venues borders on pointless. You can come and go as you please unless a venue is at capacity. It takes all of 15 minutes to get drunk if you apply yourself. If your goal is to relax and sip on some beers, well, then sneaking around isn't very relaxing, is it?
Gainesville has a long and storied history with the weed, but people usually don't drop 1/8ths on the ground around here...
Fest does not attract drug pushers or weed salesmen the way some other festivals do. And those who are under the influence in these parts tend to keep their shit together and avoid annoying druggie behavior. So, it might not be immediately apparent to foreign visitors that weed is as popular in Gainesville as it is anywhere else in the US, and that it's as popular Fest weekend as it is any other weekend in Gainesville. If somebody gets baked and then goes out and gets drunk, nobody is going to notice the baked part. But yeah, at the end of the day, Fest is about getting drunk. Unless you don't drink. Then it's about not getting drunk.
Who gives a shit if people ask about drugs on a message board. Sure, cops might be reading the board, but that kind of seems like a waste of time considering the three or four open-air weed, coke, meth, and/or pill markets I pass on my way to work.

On the note of the sneaking in booze thing; just don't do it. Bringing booze to a bar is like bringing headphones and an ipod to a concert. Why bring your own borderline cold shaken up beer in in your bag (that will likely get seen and taken away anyway, not to mention likely get you tossed out) when the venues have really cheap, ice cold beer and room temperature shots of Jameson? That and it's against the law. Not just for you but for the venue as well. DH

If we're on the topic of noobish questions, I have one that takes the cake...only question I have, but I sure feel silly asking...
For Fest tickets, do you just print off your receipt, and then when you use that with ID it counts to get your wristband? Or is there a physical ticket? Don't want to get shafted if I get there and they don't take the receipt.

Just make sure you have a drivers license/passport some kind of identification with photo.
