I just have a quick questions regarding this as it's great to see that someone from an actual venue answering here.

I have and will be using my Swedish national I.D.(you can actually travel within Europe with this and no passport). I will also be carrying a photo copy of my passport, just in case. Will this be enough...?

this is a example copy of an Swedish ID(obviously not mine, I'm not this attractive):

Last year we were CONSTANTLY told if we were not from the United States we HAD to use our passports at EVERY venue, no other form of identification would be accepted.

I guess that wasn't super enforced if everyone thought 8 Seconds was overly harsh?

I just used my passport and kept it in my purse all weekend and had no problems. I went to venues early to get a wrist band if I thought there would be a line up later. I didn't miss anything I wanted to see and never ever waited in lines. Also there was never any issues with bouncers or my id being refused!

Unfortunately, most of the venues are going to require a passport and US Govt issued ID. A photo copy of said passport likely isn't going to cut it. I am going to contact ABT, GPD and ASO on the matter and get back to you on other National ID (like the one above). Trust me, no one is trying to make things more difficult, we are just trying to do our jobs properly, that's all. As far as having to carry your passport around all weekend, I think of it like this: Most smartphones are about the same size as a passport and we only found 1 lost phone last year at Loosey's (and I went through over 1900 wrist bands in three days). What I am saying, bring your passport, be aware and keep track of it, it'll make things a lot easier on everyone and then you won't have to worry.

My international passport is more than twice the size of my smartphone. Its the laminated ID page plus 20 pages for visas and stamps etc.. My national ID was not accepted at 8 Seconds. Its virtually the same ID, just without the extra pages. With the advantage of fitting into my wallet.

DRHughes, sir, you are a scholar and a gentleman. I applaud your proactive attitude.

MarcGaertner, the issue (not yet directly explicitly mentioned) is that the venues can be fined by the police for having people in their venue who are not in posession of a suitable form of ID- regardless of how old they may appear to be. If the police come in and decide that a national ID or whatever else isn't good enough, then the venue catches the heat for it. That's why nobody wants to take the chance without direct word from the cops, because the law is actually quite stupid on this point and it is entirely possible to get in trouble for having somebody in your club who is clearly over 21 but doesn't have the proper ID in the eyes of the police.

I really would hate to be in a foreign country and have to bring my original passport out to a show. I lost my florida driver's license in the pit one year, but of course that was minor inconvenience compared to losing a passport. If it comes down to that (even if DRHughes does his homework and finds out that the national ID is OK, some other clubs still might not bother), I'd suggest duct-taping your local contact info onto the cover somewhere. People are cool, they'll help you get your passport back if it is lost, as long as they know how to find you....

Is that cowboy douchebag still working 8 Seconds?

During the rest of the year, 8 Seconds is a country western/ honky tonk type establishment, so that 'cowboy douchebag' is probably still working there...

He put such a bummer on things checking peoples' ID for aaaaages and making snide comments and stuff.

I wasn't sure he was going to let me in one day. I have a 100% legal ID from my state...picture looks just like me (I'm a dude - my hair hasn't changed). He was not convinced because the issuing agency in my state is Department of Revenue. He didn't understand why my state-licensed ID said "Department of Revenue".

I ended up showing him my credit cards, insurance cards, w/e. I did not appreciate being treated like a child and/or a criminal when I had a wallet full of proof that I was who the ID said I was.

Ha ha. No problem. I was a little confused by the name and picture combo.
