My girlfriend and I will be in New York the week before Fest. We're staying at Hotel St. James. That's a hotel though.

I might be booking into this hotel myself. I get in on the Sunday before Fest and fly down to Gainesville on Tuesday morning. I'm planning on going to the show in Brooklyn that night. Grimaldis Pizza just across the Brooklyn Bridge (the best pizza I've ever eaten with no exaggeration....expect to queue in the street!) followed by a brief stroll down to the river to watch the sun go down over Manhattan. This is my only 'must do every time' thing when I visit.

I'd try airbnb Dan. Could get a decent apartment in Brooklyn or something.
I used it a few times to stay in NY cos of the silly costs of accomadation.

there's the Pacific Loft Guesthouse in Prospect Heights in Brooklyn, which while not being the snazziest place, is only $20.

sorted one through airbnb, cheers gareth, i was using a different similar site and the options weren't great. but we found a good apartment in the east village for £30 a night, still expensive, but better than an 10 bed hostel room for the same price.

We always stay at a place called The Sutton Residence when we are in New York, in fact we are staying there again after Festing it up soon! It is in a great location at reasonable price. Check it out at http://www.suttonresidence.com.
