Before anyone asks:
1. We can only stream sets at 8 Seconds because it is the only venue with a steady internet connection that we've been able to get approval to use.
2. No, we're not streaming Armalite's set. They asked us not to.
3. The only other 8 Seconds band that's MIA is the Soviettes—I'd love to stream their set but I need their permission first to do so. I've emailed them twice but heard nothing back, so if anyone knows them, get them in touch with me please!

That's cool that the Measure's last show will be streamed.

I wish they would reconsider because I for one wouldn't wipe my ass with Alternative Press, but Armalite (and Amatuer Party) were two of my highlights from Fest 8. Armalite, sack up and let them stream your set!

I look forward to finding out what you do for a living and shitting all over it on a message board, too!

I look forward to finding out what you do for a living and shitting all over it on a message board, too! Fair enough. I did say that I was making a guess. When I followed the link I was treated to a loud and obnoxious ad for whiskey. I poked around the site and saw a pop-punk band (and I like pop-punk) dressed up in scrubs or something on the latest cover. Armalite is a side-side-project band and I doubt they really care that much about promo or whatever, so I thought they mihgt have checked out the site and said something like "thanks but no thanks". I stand corrected. I guess I could have said something like "Without a doubt it's more important to create something than to attack it" before I made the ass-wipe comment. I just meant that while I don't or wouldn't support your that website, I would check it out for the streaming videos this weekend. I'm 39 years old and I'm a school social worker and have been in/out of punk rock music scene since 1986. I currently provide mental health counseling to students at two elementary schools and a drop-out prevention program. I don't actually "create" anything at my work, while you do, so again, I admire your energy and spirit. I just think most of the bands on your website suck huge donkey cock (or vagina). Who cares? I don't think you want dudes almost in their 40's supporting your teeny-bopper bands anyway? Am I right?

In the hopes this will prevent further speculation that might make people grumpy, lemme just throw this out there: I play in Armalite (but if anyone has a better offer, let me know! playing in lemuria looks fun, so if you've got a hook-up there, get in touch). It's true we did not sign the parental permission slip that would've "allowed" Alternative Press to stream our set. But, what we attempted to tell Scott (AP editor/person who is on this board/solid Fest regular) in what I can only imagine was a frustratingly vague fashion is that:
1) It isn't cuz we think Alternative Press is bad, evil or even a good substitute for toilet paper (trust me, no glossies ever are).
2) As a criminally lazy, part-time band, we like the idea of shows as an experience, something shared by the "fuckers who happen to be in the room at that particular time." Also, since practically everything IS mediated and documented these days, what's wrong with a little "What We Do Is Secret?" (sic The Germs)
3) The Real Reason: Cuz Alternative Press never gives any coverage or support to anything Dan does artistically. While he was too humble to notice this, the rest of us felt it was time to take a stand. (For further proof, watch AP's "feedback" section in the front of the next issue.)
While I imagine there are folks out there who have X or Y criticisms of A.P., that's true of any magazine, and while I'm not often familiar with most of the bands they choose to cover, that's fine. Start your own magazine, or zine or blog (oh wait... everyone already did). Everyone's got a right to their opinion, and punk/the underground, etc., is always better for it when people speak their opinions. But, I think it's worth remembering that at the end of the day, you never know where you might find an ally or a friend even if your personal tastes or lifestyle choices don't match up 100%.
In conclusion: boycott armalite and alternative press. they both start with "A."
