It's a lot harder than you would think. A lot of people have that same idea.

But I mean really early, not just one or two hours beforehand.

We did, that's the point.

But how early did you show up?

Yeah, at Fest 8 I showed up for B!TMI at least an hour early, waited through that hour, Bomb's set, then finally made it in as Definace, Ohio was starting. Sometimes you need to show up REALLY early.

I'm not really worried about the lines, I've camped out overnight in lines for Green Day shows and everything. Obviously that's not necessary here but I think I'll have a pretty good idea of what to expect.

also the point is , you really wanna hang in a venue for hours and see maybe bands your not so intersted in and miss a bunch of bands you would love see - just for one you can't miss?

I "just" went there like 1,5h before they started to not miss them, skipped most of the line as Gully/Josh was pretty far upfront and still miss the first 10 min cause they shut down like 5 people before us and so we heard the first songs just through the door till they decided to let some more people in (in an half empty room)

but the reason for not coming earlier was watching red city radio, american armada, captain we are sinking and static radio..

Did it in Paris and Germany for Green Day last year. Fainted and everything, but it was grand in the end.

Although I'd rather not have to queue for long at Fest, I don't want to miss any of the bands on my list for this :)

I think the longest I've spent in a line at Fest is 20-30 minutes (not counting the registration line which was like 45-60 minutes). And that is only at the beginning of the day when they are checking ID's and have to give everyone a wristband. The rest of the time, if a venue is at capacity and there is a line I'll just head to a different venue and see another band on my list of bands to see. It's not that big a deal.

As far as CG/Red City Radio goes last year, there wasn't much anyone could do to get in there on time. RCR was the first band to play on Saturday so CG was the first venue to open, so of course that's where everyone was heading, and they only opened 15 minutes before RCR started, instead of the scheduled 45 or so minutes. It sucks but shit happens.

You're going to miss at LEAST 1/2 half of the bands you want to see because of schedule conflicts. You really can't just switch from venue to venue right after finishing up another band's set. Your best bet is to pick which show has the best band list for the day and stick to that venue, unless the show is at Venue or 8 Seconds because it's manageable to get into there. If you think that's going to work trying to get in somewhere like common grounds, 1982 or the atlantic, you're going to be thoroughly disappointed.

I never said how long my list was, it's only 5 bands long

After that, I'm open to anything!

actually I only partly agree, cause beside 8 seconds and the venue you should also add spiny cycle, rum runners, boca fiesta, CMC and probably also durty nellys to the list.. never saw one of that venues reaching capacity.... most of the time its easy to enter the 1982 as well... I normally switch venues a lot, but as I try to avoid Comon grounds and the atlantic or simply plan in some time to wait its working fine for me

I don't want to sound mean, but, you've never been to The Fest, have you?

Also, standing overnight and passing out for Green Day? that's really weird. Not that there's anything wrong with Green Day, I just figure they'd be playing huge venues with huge stages, likes several thousand people, and I don't understand stressing yourself like that out over something so ... un-intimate, for lack of a better word.

No, this is my first time.

If you had read my earlier post then you would have noticed that I mentioned queuing for as long would not be necessary for Fest. I was merely explaining how I have been exposed to that level of heat before and queueing in it for hours on end. Ergo, standing outside a venue in Florida for a couple of hours should be a walk in the park.

Also, I don't want to sound mean, but, you've never been to a Green Day concert have you?

HAHA your last comment is great. I'm sure we can't even fathom what a Green Day concert is like...

I'm expecting the lines to mean I miss plenty of bands I like but at the same time will mean I see loads of bands I've never heard..

Roll on October...

Well he clearly can't, a Green Day show is anything but un-intimate.

I dunno, They played a 17,000+ capacity arena when they were in Boston not too long ago....and im sure paying 50 bucks to sit in the worst seats way up in the balcony doesnt give you much of an "intimate" feeling. But hey like you said, I've never been to a Green Day show (thankfully), so what do i know?
