Just bought my ticket for Fest 10. It's my first one and I'm pretty excited. I'll be flying into Orlando with 2 or 3 others and we're wondering the best way (cheapest) to get to Gainesville.
Rent a car? Bus? hitch a ride with some other Fest bound people?
Thanks!

Car rental can be pricey, I did it for Fest 7 and Fest 8 and its like $160 for the day (dropping it off at gville airport when I get there) but its not bad if you're giving people a ride up and splitting that 3-4 ways. Its kind of a pain though having to deal with the paperwork and rental car place, then having to drop it off at gville airport and then having to take a cab from there back to downtown gville. Best bet is probably to book a seat on the Runways shuttle that runs from Orlando airport to downtown gville (drops off on campus not far from the holiday inn), pickup times vary but you can pick which one you need based on when you're flight arrives, I think its like $50. http://www.rnwy.comOr if you can find someone else who has a rental car who is willing to give you a lift up you can chip in for that since it'd probably be a little cheaper than $50, I gave people lifts both times and it works out quite nicely plus I made a few new friends out of it.

if you compare the price for rental cars it can be way cheaper.. checked the other day, a car fro 4 days thu - mon from tampa was like 104€ = around150$ ..
there are some little charges but still okay... you pay like 40$ (?) for the gas and can return it empty and like a little handling fee, but still okay if you split it with some people and your covered both ways
or just saw for 155€ its including the gas, 3extra drivers and gps.. hehe just saw on the german site autoeurope.de the car is way cheaper than on the american autoeurope.com ...

Just FYI.. I contacted the Runway and found that October dates will be posted June 20... sounds like it might be the best deal for one way trips from Gainesville to Orlando.

...and of course there's tons of other out of town and SoFLa festers that could pick you up as well. Spanish Gamble has the record of 19 people in a van from the Jax airport...they kept running into strangers who were obviously Festers. Keep your options open. You might find a ride for pitching in $10 on gas.

I live in Kissimmee (south orlando) I'm planning on going to the Prefest Wednesday and heading up sometime Thursday.. I Currently have no one riding with me, though if I can get an extra ticket for a friend of mine she would be riding with. I have a small car but could cram 5 people in total. I'll post more info closer to Fest.
