Wonder why it never occurred to me to make this topic in previous years.
Just wondering how many other diabetics are coming down. I know of at least one who went to Fest two years ago, because his band was playing.

How do you guys avoid going too high or too low? A few years ago, I was running around so much it seemed like I just couldn't keep my sugar up, no matter how much I ate. So I tend to take it easy on the insulin when I've got a busy day.

Any favorite low-carb Fest-meals? How much privacy do you need to shoot up? Fest can play hell on the usual things we do to take care of ourselves. I imagine most diabetics at Fest let their habits slip a little. Got good tips for staying track? I may just go with a freaking fanny pack for a test kit this year.

My friend Anthony lives here and is diabetic. But he isn't the most careful one. He has a pump which helps I guess but he goes all out during Fest (and not during Fest too) and drinks like crazy.

Interesting. I lived in a house with two diabetics - one had a pump and was really good about staying on top of his blood sugar levels, the other one only checked his levels maybe once a day and used to chug down honey to fix them.

My daughter has been a diabetic since she was 5, she's 12 now, so i've got a lot of experience dealing with the ups and downs of diabetes. She's been on the pump since about 2006, and it's way better at dealing with spontaneous situations, that's for sure. It seems that even though it's not a very healthy way to live, the workout you get at a show, might help when consuming the beer.

If i was diabetic at the Fest, i'd be checking my sugar probably twice as much as usual, drinking a ton of water, and trying to eat something with substance that won't spike blood sugar levels up and down like booze, but then again, if you're diabetic, you probably already know all that

unlike most people, I barely drink any beer during Fest. I love beer, but for me it just doesn't really mix too well with punk rock. But I'm also a beer snob, so although I can enjoy a PBR every now and then, I usually can only drink one or two before I want something better. And I rarely drink hard liquor anyway.

Food on the run can be tough. I sometimes stick granola bars in my pockets. I find those glucose tabs they sell for low blood sugar are pretty useless.

Probably the biggest way it affects me at Fest, is that I absolutely must schedule in some meal breaks.

I couldn't find much about it on his site. Just a link to an article that briefly mentions it a couple of times.

I remember talking to him for a while at a show in Jacksonville years ago. I mentioned how because of my diabetes, I had to take a shitty job at a factory for the insurance, and would be leaving right after the show to do my graveyard shift. That was before he was diabetic, I'd love to hear his insight on the situation now.

I drink at Fest. but I do monitor my blood sugar and drink lots of water.


I brought a fanny pack the past couple years for things like granola bars and juice boxes.
It works out. and if there is a problem, everyone is real nice and offer to help with getting some kind of glucose for you.
