Nothing wrong with being by Wal-Mart as such. In fact you'll probably love it in there...we had a great time visiting that place a few years ago. It's just a long bloody walk to and from town that's all.

The best place without doubt is the Hampton Inn Downtown but I believe it's fully booked out now. At least according to other board members it is.
Failing that the Holiday Inn is the next best option but it is quite expensive. Rooms will be available through No Idea (I assume) when Fest tickets go on sale.
If you're on a budget then the Days Inn on SW13th Street would get my vote. It's a couple of miles from downtown but closer than the place you mentioned. A bit grotty but very cheap. I've stayed a couple of times and it does the job. WAY cheaper than Holiday or Hampton Inn too.

Can someone tell me by how far before the Fest should I have a hotel booked? I'm aiming for a room at the holiday inn but will settle for something cheaper such as the Americas best

If you want the Holiday Inn then don't hang about. The rooms usually sell pretty quick, especially the twin doubles but now that word has spread about the Hampton it may not sell out quite as quick as it has in the past.
As far as the smaller, cheaper motels on SW13th go, you can probably wait until nearer the time and still be ok.

I think you can get the America's Best Value Inn(right across the street from the days inn) for $187 for 4 nights. I stayed at the Days Inn last year...wasn't bad for a Fest hotel. But you could save 20 bucks across the street...20 may not seem like a lot, but it could be some extra beer or something.

Well on the plus side you won't need to cross the street and believe me, by our standards it's a very BIG street! I nearly got taken out by a truck the first year I went as they drive on the wrong bloody side!
