I guess getting the 2 finalists right is good enough....congrats to Spain. They definitely played better and deserved to win.

Yeah. It was a disappointing game in the end, though. In fact it was a pretty ropey tournament overall. Ah well.

I think anyone who pays close attention to FIFA rankings on a consistent basis know that these rankings are pretty bogus....
As a few have pointed out, Egypt at 9th? All I can remember about Egypt is the USA beating them 3-0 at the Confed Cup last year...and if the USA beats the shit out of you, then you are not a top 10 team.

And just looking at the top 30....I see at least 10 teams that are way overrated. There are 4 teams in the top 10 that I would move down...obviously these rankings are done by points gained through competition and not human ranking.

way to rain on my parade guys!

nah just kidding - I don't really follow football normally so have no idea whether the rankings mean anything. A few lads at work said pretty much the same as you all though.

How did Egypt not qualify for this world cup? Who'd they get beaten by?

Play off with Algeria. They're not best buddies so it was a pretty rowdy affair.

PS. Kai, we would destroy Poland, all their good players play for you.

egypt are a strange one, they have won the africa cup of nations in 2006, 2008, and 2010, but haven't qualified for the world cup since 1990.

So, the (European) domestic season is just about upon us. My club, Aberdeen, made a pretty good signing today, picking up Paul Hartley on a free. Exactly the sort of player we need - we have a very young team, lacking in experience, especially in the middle of the park. We've made him our captain already.

it will be the first season since years I will look forward to follow agaion.. wasn't too insteresting the years my teams were in the 2nd league which is covered rather bad in german tv.. but st pauli is back

gonna see what their teams brings, but they did the best of their limited possibilties, got gerald asamoah for free (and schalke is even paying part of his salary), they got volz who played in the UK the last years for free ... they concentrate on regional talents and I just think tehy will be good for some surprises...

Ha, Moritz Volz is a bit of a character, I think. I'm pretty sure it's him that has a funny / silly website.

heard something like that... he's pretty unkown over here as he never played in a major german league, but sounds like he fits well to st pauli
