Here's an idea that just came to me.
Everyone brings to Fest with them a mixtape/CD of cool bands from their home town ONLY. (It needs to be that specific to avoid us all overlapping) It doesn't have to be long or anything, if your town only has 3 cool bands, that's fine. You then make it look all fancy, and place it in a box/barrel/receptacle of some sort at registration (on one of the market tables?) and take someone else's.
Then you enjoy listening to a bunch of bands you've most likely never heard of from a town you might not have heard of, and maybe then post about the one you picked up on here after Fest (before the forum goes into hibernation).
I think this would be kinda cool, and probably more fun than reading a thread of endless myspace links.
yay? nay?
Partakers/flakers list:
wayfarer - Sydney MakeSound - Toronto Robert - Tallahassee, FL kelly - Perth Newportandy - Newport Nick-Easy305 - Miami Bryneyancey - Orlando Benchini - Leicester (and surrounds) Zachubbell - omaha Ian - Cleveland Kenny - Scotland xjettdisregardablex - Atlanta pugs - swansea Blatant Anomaly - Pembroke Pines (and surrounds)

Well that's me out as technically I live in Surbiton and I'm not sure we actually have any full bands living here at all! Can I count bands that have stayed here!? Then I can pretty do a Best of Fest comp!

I mean, if there's no bands in what is technically the 'town' or whatever that you live in, then extend outwards until you can find some.. I just don't recall ever being given a City-specific mix before, thought it'd be interesting.

I could get behind this. Even though I'm an hour away, I claim Cleveland as my home city. We have a fucking awesome scene. I could fill 2 CDs full of amazing bands.

I'm up for this, although I'd probably extend it to Scotland. I made a Scotland mix for Chas in last year's swap, actually. We don't have many Fest-type bands, though, so it was pretty emo/screamo/indie/folk-dominated.

I think that for most that don't live in a metropolis, including the general area is a must. I live in Pembroke Pines, Florida. Not much good that I know of has come out of here, but including the counties around me would open up some possibilities.

Husbands ay pfff Although at the time of posting I wasn't thinking about nicking your idea, I quite clearly did (subconciously at least) then added the CD making part. Sorry! All credit due to Kelly.
