awwwww how cute, now they're having a little get together at city hall to really draw attention to how they are crybabies that jump at the first chance they get to yell OMG POLICE BRUTALITY!?!!???! http://citylimits.blogs.gainesville.com ... brutality/http://www.facebook.com/event.php?eid=1 ... 014&ref=mfit's not police brutality when you attack the cops. take a shower. feed your dog. go home. on another note i too have a crusty punk story: on i think Wednesday after the Fest i walking into the Mcdonalds on N. 13th street (yeah yeah, they have good coffee) - noticed 2 of these douchebags standing by the door asking people for money. as i walked up, one of them said "awww man sweet Terror shirt bro" (it's a Terror in Tiny Town shirt). my response: IT'S NOT A FUCKING TERROR SHIRT. LEARN TO READ AND GET THE FUCK OUT OF MY TOWN. Fest IS OVER. his response: "awwww bro my bad maaaaan" EDIT: links fixed. noooooge.

I think the Alachua Committee Against Brutality needs to address the violence of their peers at local venues in Gville, rather than police brutality that didn't happen. "Five people were arrested on charges ranging from assaulting an officer to open container violations. Two of those arrested are from Alachua County and will be present at the event Tuesday." Uhhh, i remember looking at the new articles/mugshots/booking info and i don't remember any of them being from from Alachua county? Closest one lived in St. Pete from what I recall. One was from Missouri, don't remember the rest. Maybe they were the open container arrests. That doesn't really count now does it. Oh and be amused about those even more bitter than myself about "the scene". Yeah, there is a whole lot of Fest hate on there: http://www.gainesvillebands.com/forum/forum_posts.asp?TID=30235&KW=police+FestPS - I love your crusty story Nick. You're my hero...haha

I don't doubt that a wrong person or two might have some legal trouble, but it really sucks that it can hard to sort out the innocent victims apart from the shitpunks. All the more reason that anyone who travels to Fest, and begs for change, should be run out of town on a rail.
Also, if they had a half a brain, they would only beg from people who have nothing to do with punk. That way they would have far less chance for getting called out for being such hypocrites.

Jana, we have known each other a long time but if this is a swipe at Common Grounds I have to say that you are completely full of shit. Dave was being an asshole. He was taken outside. He wasn't strangled. He wasn't beaten. He was removed for being a drunk asshole. It was not the first time. End of story. Jon

http://citylimits.blogs.gainesville.com/10277/City Manager: Fest 8 causes few issues and brings dollars by Megan Rolland Fest 8 brought money to downtown and aside from a few minor incidents outside of sanctioned events, the three day hard rock music festival was a success, said a memo from City Manager Russ Blackburn that detailed the costs associated with the event. “There were relatively few problems with the Fest in organized venues,” Blackburn wrote. “The issues that were encountered by (the Gainesville Police Department) occurred at private after-parties, which were not under the auspices of the Fest organizers.” The report from GPD indicated the department spent $1,374 in overtime mostly associated with a street party Halloween night that was unassociated with the official Fest music events. When police attempted to break up the party on Northwest 8th Avenue and Northwest 4th Street, a skirmish ensued in which a suspected was Tasered and several people attacked a police officer. The Hampton Inn Downtown hired overtime officers for the weekend at a cost of $1,926, however, the hotel reported in a separate study that they rented out between 70 and 80 rooms for the event. Of the eight hotels contacted for the city’s survey, most indicated some rooms being reserved by Fest 8 patrons. The Hampton Inn Downtown had the most patrons, while the Holiday Inn on University Avenue and Northwest 13th Street estimated between 50 and 60 hotel rooms were booked. Victory is ours!
Every time I went past Stubbies it smelled overpoweringly of vomit. Maybe that's why they didn't have anyone in.

I like how the city didn't try to pin the aftershows on The Fest, I mean it's obvious they wouldn't have happened if the Fest wasn't in town but it's good to see they recognized that there is no official association and there aren't sponsored or anything
that entire press release was great, really shows what a lot of people don't realize is that in the grand scheme of things The Fest is a non issue to the police and the city. The fight that happened is the equivalent to if a crack head spazzed out and had to be taken down 5 min before a shift change at the station. Compared to a Saturday during Football season The Fest is easy for the city to deal with.
I'm surprised the Gainesville Lodge said yes to having people back, I was under the assumption that they kicked most Festers out due to the problems they had years ago, but guess it's smart the way they do it now of not taking reservations.
overall people are still going to complain and say it's bad for the city or whatever they can come up with but it's a small minority that agrees with that and the press release just proves it all wrong.
