Whine whine whine.

I like Dead To Me from what I've heard but know little about the band. Who is Jack and more importantly what does he do in the band? If he's the main vocalist then I have to say I can see where you're coming from!

I'm not really sure what the inner workings of the band are, but as far as I can tell he is the main singer/songwriter (just judging from the fact that he sang in One Man Army and there are elements of that band in most of Dead To Me's songs). Of course I really wouldn't know without asking the band, but the majority of their songs feature the guy, and now they will just be crappy karaoke versions in my opinion.
The sad thing is that I will still go see them, just because I can't imagine ever getting another chance to.

YET ANOTHER EDIT: None of this is meant to disparage the other guys in the band (other than their decision making, that is). I like every song I have ever heard from these guys, including the few that mostly feature the other vocalist. But I just don't see him pulling off the songs that didn't feature him heavily.

Well if he's the vocalist then that's a real shame as it's the vocals that always stick in my mind when I think of this band. Not to say they wouldn't be good otherwise but perhaps if he plans to return and record/write/play with them at a later date then they maybe they should have done a Descendents/ALL type thing with their band name.

I actually believe Chicken writes most of the lyrics. And Dead To Me has repeatedly said Jack will be back... just have to wait.

Yeah, I know that Chicken sings a hell of a lot too, and after checking out some live clips I think they are still going to rip up the fucking stage. My rant about bands touring with half ass lineups still stands though, even if I let Dead to Me off the hook this time, hehe...

I hope African Elephant leaks before Fest so I can learn some lyrics before I grab the vinyl too. Should be all aces.

I hope so. I'll be there regardless, as I can't imagine when I'll be able to see them again. I have high hopes for the new record, but that is really where I am worried about the absence of Jack, the man has a serious knack for catchy tunes.
But hey, fuck it, I'll take the bait.

dead to me still rules. chicken and nate do the vocals, and they sound rad. plus, their new band BAD FRIENDS is really good, too... same dudes (chicken, nate, ian) but very different music.

Okay, I am still giving them a shot at not sucking live, but the new record is an ABSOLUTE FUCKING PIECE OF SHIT. I have no idea what band recorded it, but jesus fucking christ what a worthless turd. Even makes the abomination that is the new American Steel seem more acceptable.
