GNV residents this summer, Festgoers next year, if you've got brains and like books, there will be meeting of the Confederacy of Dunces to talk literature, listen to the Andres Segovia recording of Bach, and eat southern cooking. Sad to say it, but I've been waiting years for a book club I actually wanted to join.
I hope you do realize that "Confederacy Of Dunces" is the title of a book, and it really doesn't have much to do with The South, though it does take place in Naw'leans.

Let me rephrase. It takes place in The South, but the "confederacy" in the title is not the one typically associated with The South.

I heard in the south, people wear hats on their feet. And hamburgers eat people.

Yes, I knew it was a book. It's just a perfect name for a book club in the South.
I do not own a US map, and I'd wager most people don't, but I do have mapquest.
And really the whole thing's blown anyway because Florida isn't really "The South".

well, everything between Jacksonville and Tallahassee is really sort of like "Far South Georgia," and the panhandle might as well belong to Mississippi and Alabama.
for central FL, it really depends on how far out into the countryside you live.
South Florida though, might as well be a cross between NYC and LA.
but yeah, The Confederacy Of Dunces would be a good name for a book club. My own efforts at starting a bookclub were put on hold for a bit, but several of the people I wanted in it will be at a wedding this weekend, so I'll ask them about it again.
and I figured you probably did know of the book.

I kind of had that impression. Lived in JAX when I was a kid, and then S.C. and Mississippi at point in my life (S.C. for most of my life) and Florida always seems like the South until I hit Orlando. Then it's just way commercial.

Not to bring it up again, but some people do reffer to Milwaukee as MKE, which is the airport code here...*shrug*
Back on topic!
I bought the rest of the Sprawl Trilogy (Count Zero and Mona Lisa Overdrive,) by Gibson, and a copy of Dune the other day. I've been meaning to start Dune forever...

North Carolina's more southern-fried than Florida. I know that much.

Also, "southern cooking," while delicious, is a high step up the ladder to a heart attack. Seriously, I love it do death (no pun here), but it's always hit or miss. I definitely got the shits after eating my mom's homemade chicken and pastry last weekend.

That's brutal, but I would massacre a small village to have fried chicken that's worth eating. And biscuits. Goddamn it...at least I have burritos.

Perhaps they'll have free-range chickens at this small village. You win!
