Finally got to join a union. UAW Local 1821. I can just feel the solidarity already.

now three things are left:

do nothing and still get paid
break safety rules and still get paid (and not fired)
work during a strike, SCAB!

then the circle is complete. :D

Are you UAW at the Ambulance factory in Ocala?
or a subsidiary like IUPAT (International Union of Painters and Allied Trades)?

E-One just had a bunch of lay offs. some of those guys who lost their job just started with me.

the FULL title of the UAW is actually "The International Union, United Automobile, Aerospace and Agricultural Implement Workers of America"

I work under the Areospace part.

but you're right that they do actually have a bunch of smaller affilatied unions under their umbrella. Like if you are in the Graphic Artists' Guild, then technically you are also UAW.

When i was 17 I worked at a grocery store that the union rep would trick other high schoolers into joining. Then when they realized it didn't help them for shit and tried to cancel their membership they'd get the runaround like you wouldn't believe. I never joined but gave the fancy-dressing mercedez-driving rep a hard time every time he came to tell a new employee "hey...sign here". I'd inform the kid exactly what (s)he was signing.

Other than that, when I think of unions I think of AFSCME!
