My friend who was supposed to come with me to Fest but didn't, she and I are discussing about possibly taking a trip down to Gainesville in the next couple of months just for the hell of it. Partly to go back and maybe experience what it's like during a non-Fest environment.
So, that said for all you G-ville residents, recommend some cool stuff to do in town. Obviously we're going to hit up all the eating spots and try and catch a show while we're down there, but of course I'm curious to know what else there might be to do. Recommend stuff local folks!
Also, does anyone know the deal with the Waffle House on SW 13th near the Paramount/Days Inn/Comfort Inn/Subway/Econolodge? Every time my other friends and I drove by it looking to go in, it looked dark, empty and closed. Considering it's a 24 hour establishment I assume that means its closed temporarily or for good). What's up with it and that said, if that one is closed, are there any other open ones in town? I'm very sad I didn't get to eat there this year

I know it's gross but I love it! Maybe its because there aren't any up here, its more of a novelty in that respect.

I guess anything really. More food joints, parks, skateparks, bike shops, etc.... anything neat or fun. I'll take any suggestions!

There is. It's on the South side of the road.
I love Gainesville, but I can't think of anything that you can ONLY do there (except maybe eat a meal for $5 at 4 AM). If you want to enjoy the place just get out and about.

one time, YEARS ago, I was at that Waffle House on 13th with a girl I had a crush on (who oddly, looks sort of like my Fest crush), and our waiter was a total flamer with a greasy blonde mullet and bitch tits. He made innappropriate comments to us the whole time we were there.
I think that girl might still live in Gainesville, but is not involved in punk rock anymore.

That is an interesting tale...
BUT,
how could one ever give up punk rock? that's fucking wierd. disturbing even.

Go to Kate's Fish Camp and canoe out on Newnan's Lake. (About 5 miles east of Gainesville)
Did it today -- was beautiful and awesome.

We can do that here too. Cheap falafel joint here in NYC that stays open through the early morning hours!
