I work on the North side of St. Louis and am laughing my ass off at how dangerous you think Gainesville is. According to the internerd, your fair city has 5 homicides listed so far this year. St. Louis MO is on course to break 200. Don't be scared kids, you're doing alright. I on the other hand am forced to wear a kevlar vest to work...I'm a paramedic.

I'm not too worried about it honestly. I live in the highest murder rate and highest gang involvement county in all of Florida and i'm still alive.

Philip: There are always those poor souls that wander off of their own wasted. That's who I am most concerned about.
¬_¬ShiftyJ: It isn't "the jocks" you need to worry about so much. Several parts of the Fest area border on true ghetto. Someone may think they are taking a shortcut and get themselves into a bad situation. So everyone stay to the main streets if you don't know the area first hand.

Alright, alright... you can't compare murder rates between somewhere like NY and Gville. But keep in mind that considering how small and underpopulated Gville is compared to a real/big city, the rates have been high this year. AND THE GPD DOES NOT MAKE PUBLIC ALL EVENTS. All of those incidents earlier this year where friends were assaulted were not made public.
I just wanted to point out to the people that think Gville is safe to walk ANYWHERE on the streets at night that it isn't. I know a lot of you know better, but there a lot of young and inexperienced Festers too.
And an area of town's appearance can be misleading. IE - There is an area directly behind the Atlantic called "The Duck Pond". It has a mix of expensive townhouses, mansions, and old house rentals where punk/student types live.
About 2 years ago in the daytime (directly behind the Atlantic) my roommate and a guy friend were walking down the sidewalk when a car drove up, a guy got out and pulled a gun on them. So yeah, there has been a lot of "them coming to you" kinda stuff going on too.
And i never said Gville was dangerous, it is very safe in fact. All I'm saying is stay smart, stay in groups and you'll be safer.

I understand what Jana is saying. She's got a point. She's also showing her protective den mother side, and maybe did overstate her case in a couple spots. It's sweet, she just loves us all.

Its pretty bad, especially around Tamarind and parts around downtown clamatis, and it stretches all the way up to Blue Heron. If you're talking about Gardens or Jupiter then yeah... you have nothing to worry about.
