Taco Bell is having a contest, where people vote for bands, and after a few rounds, the 3 top bands get something like a $500 Taco Bell gift certificate. There's a good number of bands that are playing The Fest, and some other good bands, and some horrible bands, and some bands who make plenty of damn money enough to buy their own tacos.

You can vote for as many bands as you want. I voted for Crime In Stereo, Polar Bear Club, Soul Control, Murder By Death, and The Swellers.

right now Crime In Stereo and Polar Bear Club are in the #4 and #5 spots. Gaslight Anthem is #15, but they seem to be doing pretty well on their own these days.
the rest of the current top 24 is mostly popular and/or awful bands.
A word of warning though- if your computer is at all older or slower, you might want to mute the volume before going to the site. Earlier today my computer froze up on me, but it was still playing some horrible shit. I had to unplug my speakers until everything caught up, because the volume knob wasn't working.

yeah, on the "Alumni" section, I spot a few good bands (Strike Anywhere, Lemuria, Ozma, Big D And The Kids Table) and lot of crappy ones. Lot's of FL, one band from Ocala, one from Tallahassee, and one from Gainesville.
Kind of surprised that Strike Anywhere didn't have some sort of moral problem with Taco Bell. On other boards, I've seen vegans or whoever talking shit on Verse and some of the other bands for participating.

I could be wrong, but I believe they did turn it down, along with Ted Leo.

Taco Bell is the only fast food place with vegan options that remains edible.

Yeah, agreed, but a band like Verse who are a political band and very outspoken about it, I can understand where people would get a little peeved by it. Most serious activists don't support corporations regardless of if they have vegan food options or not. However, while I do see their side of the story, I also understand that sometimes for a band on tour in middle America, finding vegan food isn't as easy as it is in major cities or college towns, and it could be the easiest thing to do for a band to just pull over and go to Taco Bell.
It's a tricky situation to be involved in but I see it from both points of view.

People don't support Taco Bell because of their Modern day Slavery. As in the people who pick the vegetables not the actual corporate workers.

some of the better bands are starting to slip in the rankings.
The Devil Wears Prada is #23, I wish I knew what bands were just outside the top 24, so they could maybe bump that crap out of competition.

I'm pretty sure I know where his head's at on such things. ¬_¬ShiftyJ wrote: People don't support Taco Bell because of their Modern day Slavery. I'm not defending them. But they have revised their practices recently. If you're going to be into activism, you owe it to yourself to be up to date.

I haven't been into any activism in the last 6 months or so until recently but i've only been participating in Earth First! Protests and such, not so much corporate shit. After the Florida Protest against all major food chains a couple months ago i think i heard that Burger King was the only fast food restaurant that agreed to raise the price they were paying for vegetables. And even so, it wasn't by much as I remember. So I'm guessing that you're saying Taco Bell jumped on the bandwagon with them.
