i don't think gainesville has a "hood," just a bunch of crazy people that flock to a few parks... even the crappier parts of town have cool houses with big porches and seem to have a mixed demographic... and nice people...
the only sketchy thing that ever happened was by the projects in nw, this 12 year old asked me to smoke this blunt he had with him. i did it anyways and it ended up being pretty cool

Depending on who you talk to, various portions of Northeast and Southeast Gainesville are considered "bad." This is crucial for those of us who live on the east side, as we consequently don't have to put up with the meatheads, yuppies, and traffic that plague the west side. The creeping gentrification from downtown and the duckpond maintains its steady pace, but does tend to slow up when it hits the 70's housing stock and old cracker shacks with chicken wire fences. Man, it's gonna suck when that shit comes into style... prolly about the same time that Ozone Park and East Orange become fashionable for Brooklyn hipsters.

i have no idea what you just said. lol. ozone park, east orange, gentrification, 70's housing stock. yeah parts of the SE and NE are shitty. oddly, i've been called both a meathead, and a yuppie...keep in mind those people are now walking around with fist sized holes in they head.

That place is such a dive. The commercials for it are the best. I haven't been since they changed the name from Eddie C's though. Right across the street's a Winne Dixie. Which is pretty crucial.

I've seen the commercials for Backstage Lounge, but never ones for Cafe Risque. What channel do they show those on?

The distance only matters to me because it isn't like how fast you can get to the other venues (minus 1982). In the time it would take me to get to 1982 or Backstage, I could have missed most of a set. May not be much running from one venue to the next for me this year. May just have to decide on camping out at venues longer and accept the fact that I'm going to miss some bands elsewhere.

The weird thing about Gville is that in the central area near downtown it has real ghetto RIGHT next to expensive apartments RIGHT next to the "student ghetto". Which makes it hard to realize that while one street is cool to walk down at 3am by yourself, the cross street might get your raped or killed. No joke.
There sure as hell are parts of town I wouldn't walk/drive through without extreme caution. Day or night. There are also a lot of dealers and prostiutes in these areas. I've had them try to get into my car when I stopped at a light, more than once.
For several months earlier this year I had at least one friend a month attacked walking/biking alone at night in areas of town you wouldn't think were dangerous. One friend had her arm broken, another her face sliced with a razor, and several more guys were beat up. And these weren't people stealing anything from most of them. They just came out of the darkness yelling that they were a freak for their tattoos, knocking them down and beating the crap out of them.
And a body was also found in a ditch earlier this year in the richest part of town (Duck Pond), right by downtown Gville.
Gville has pad parts like any other town. Do not walk around by yourself at night in strange areas if you can help it. And stay alert!

or just carry a really big fucking gun and get ready to blast motherfuckers.
great story: when i took a concealed carry class last february, i brought in my big ass 6 inch barrel 357 mag. when it was time to shoot at the end, i busted that shit out, and the dude next to me goes: "how then hell you fixin to conceal that?"
my reply: "i didn't buy a gun this big to conceal"
he chuckled, and seemed kind of confused. lol

well, for Fest weekend anyway, I don't think many people will walking alone much. Even if you're not walking with a friends, there should be enough punks almost everywhere to provide some safety in numbers.

Luckily, I generally fit in with the jocks since i've played in sports ever since i remember. Maybe i'll just bring my varsity Jacket to deter people if i am alone lol.
