i moved to gainesville from miami because it is about half as cheap to do so. the night life probably does get repetitive, but it got so in miami as well. the advantage in gainesville is that i can walk to my favorite bars and venues rather than have to drive 20-30 minutes.

a lot of tours do come through here, if they don't - they're probably playing tampa, orlando, jacksonville or tallahassee - which are all about two hours away. (A LOT more than miami)

another plus for me, this area is VERY vegetarian friendly.

currently i just started being a substitute teacher, with a bookstore job on the side. i am pondering trying to get a position to teach full time next year.

public education in florida is pretty badly funded; thanks to consecutive terms of republican governors + a bad economy!

i've been here about two months and it has been pretty much what i expected, in a good way.

Its not all bad. It is challenging to be single and seeking a serious relationship in your later 20s and on up in this town though.

ha, try living in Ocala.

Man, why the HELL do you live there? haha

Place is so bad.

I grew up in Ocala. We have our own weird little punk scene here, which has long been dominated by Christian metalcore, with occasional bursts of pop-punk. Around 2001, I was booking a lot of ska shows here, and trying to branch out into other genres, but in 2002 I moved to Jacksonville for school. Before I moved, I and a couple other promoters were making great strides in improving the scene. Of course now it's all myspace emo-hair and tough guy mosh.

In early 2007 my life went to total shit, and after a year of not being able to improve it, I moved back here. I've still got old friends here, a few new ones, and I think this town has some potential, but I don't know if I want to be here long term.

I moved here from WI. I love living in Gainesville, but I hate the heat- though I am getting used to it.

The job market here BLOWS.

The nightlife is fun, and there is a pretty decent music scene...keep in mind, with that comes scenesters, hipsters, and the whole fixed gear crowd.

Most big tours will skip gville, and hit jax, orl, or tampa...though i have been to so many shows here that i thought i'd never be able to see - literally 2 miles from where i live. that's awesome.

so much awesome food to eat/restaurants.

cost of living is maybe a little bit lower than average. you can find deals, just gotta be patient.

overall, gainesville is a great place to live - if you have a job, or can find one.

i'm from out west, Salt Lake City, and i've pondered moving from here. i've been in SLC for 7 years now. it's not a bad scene, it's not an amazing scene. i just need a change.
g'ville was on my list too on somewhere new to try. hell, i've never been there, not till a few weeks from now. and i've probably got a little too romantic view of g'ville because of the great bands that have come from there or gotten there start with no idea.
i can't wait to check out and see what it's really like.
all and all, besides wanting to get away from slc to avoid some of my past, i need a scene that has more fest-styled bands in them. bands out here tend to lack a sense of heart in there music, and that's what i live for, music with heart.
portland seems to be a good town for music these days....anchor down, bitchin' summer, etc...

i haven't ever had the pleasure of calling gainesville home, but ive done my time in craphole ocala which is pretty close. the scene in ocala is changing but like said previously its all mallcore and highschool emo hair.

im getting the opportunity to finally make the move to gainesville very shortly after the Fest and im really looking forward to it.

even though large tours dont hit gainesville, thats rarely what i come there for anyway. tons of great indie, hardcore, punk shows to be had year round.
