That is without doubt the best idea I've ever heard...ever! Is it too late to get this sorted? Even if it is a limited run of 10 balls or something. I will buy two for sure and I'm sure the No Idea bowling team would all want one. Someone please make this happen!!

Thats what I was thinking. Someone do it please :D?

Or failing that (given that it's probably too late). A No Idea bowling bag?
Or bowling shoes. Or anything vaguely bowling themed really.
Or a horsebites individually painted No Idea bowling pin?
I'll stop now.

If you've got a Switch/Maestro card, don't bother with one of those travel money cards. Just have the cash in your bank account and take it out when you're there. Those things are useful-ish, but really just another hassle.

Yeah, I always Visa Debit it up when I'm abroad. It costs me £1.50 a time but you're getting the actual rate, rather than whatever M&S or whomever is offering, so if you're taking a good few quid out it evens up.

Yeah, it's kinda like taking out cash on a credit card.. you get charged the same if you take out ten or a hundred, so why not just go for $100 and have fun :)

(this is why i have £3500 of credit card debts :? )

I've been tempted to open a nationwide account because they don't charge you anything and its visa debit not maestro im pretty sure, which would be good for ordering things off american websites. Though I've been saying that for a while and still haven't been bothered to do it. Apparently HSBC are making their debit cards visa in january though. Banky wank

If ever I win the lottery I'll bail you out. If i ever do the lottery.

I can get a student credit card with HSBC but I don't understand them therefore I think they're evil. I don't get all the percentages and stuff. Shove your APR up your bum. My housemate is in a tonne of debt 'cause he got 4 student bank accounts and spent the enormous overdrafts on each of them, and got a couple of credit cards too. I have no idea what on though, he doesn't even have any cool stuff.

Sarah and I opened a Nationwide account for that exact reason. Totally haven't put any money in it yet, in fact don't even know how you would.

I need to kinda correct myself actually... if you are using your debit card abroad then use it to draw out a bunch of cash! Don't use it to pay for anything in shops.

I think HSBC charge something like 1% interest on every transaction to a maximum of £3. So if you pay $5 for something and you use your card you'll pay £3 on top and if you draw out $500 from an ATM you'll still only pay £3 on top.

Wow, I sound like a leaflet for HSBC. I went away in May to the States and was terrified with the idea of carrying three weeks of cash on me, let alone hiding it in scuzzy motel rooms for some minimum wage cleaner to steal.

If you get one of those travel cards and lose it you're fucked but if you lose your bank card you're still fucked but at least no one can use it once you've called your bank...

...AND, you need to tell your bank you'll be using your card abroad or they'll most likely block it the first time you use it. On their screen it will come up that you're taking out a wad of cash in Gainesville when the day before you were taking out a tenner in the UK and they'll do a panic.
