in most states anyway, check your state to be sure- http://www.vote411.org/bystate.php

I think this should be posted in all sub-forums, at least for the next couple of days.

And for those of you that already have a Voter ID card, make sure you know where it is. I spend hours looking for mine yesterday before I found it. :shock:

last time I changed my registration, in March, they didn't give me a new voter ID card, they just sent a letter saying I was registered. I think they JUST want us to use our driver's licenses now.

Do I smell shenanigans afoot?

Why does voting in FL have to be so complicated?

If anyone from DC is going to be in GNV on election day, give me your details and I'll vote for you. :D

Voting FAQ:

1. When is the Election?

Tuesday, November 4th. Yes, only 29 days left.

2. When is the voter registration deadline?

Most states have a voter registration deadline this week! Some are Monday, Oct 6th.
Find out the date at: http://www.rockthevote.com/electioncenter/
(you may need to scroll down to see the list)

3. I am registered at my old address- what should I do?

You should register to vote where you live. Register using: http://www.voteforchange.com/

If it's too late, you can vote using your old address at your old polling station.
If your old address in another state, you can request an absentee ballot.

4. How do I get an absentee ballot?

You can request an absentee ballot from your Secretary of State or Board of Elections:
http://www.rockthevote.com/voting-is-ea ... ntact-sos/

5. What, if anything do I need to take to the poll to prove I'm me?

The voteforchange.com site explains this pretty well and will give you the situation for your state.

The registration confirmation (sometimes called a "voter registration card") that might come in the mail on a card is not good for anything, except to tell you what your district is and where your poll station is. You don't need it to go vote.

In many states, new voters registering by mail are required to show ID when voting for the first time.

Think about ID in two ways:

1. You need to show who you are:
* Passport
* Government ID card
* Military ID card
* Student ID card
* Public housing ID card

2. You might need to show where you live. Now your driver's license might show this address, but if it doesn't, bring something with your address on it:

* Utility bill
* Bank statement
* Paycheck
* Government check (Social Security, tax refund, military paycheck or paycheck stub)
* Other government documents with your name and address including but not limited to: voter registration card, hunting, fishing, or trapping license or firearm permit.

I urge you to go to this website to:

* Register to vote
* Check to see if your registration is correct
* To find your poll station (although this feature may not be active for all states yet)
* To find out if your state has early voting (NYS does not, it only has absentee ballots)

To do this, when it asks you if you are registered click on "not sure" and it will ask a couple more questions. If you are registered it will find you and let you know. Always good to be sure. I know it found me because it knew my middle initial and birthday. :)
