Sometimes I wish for the apocolypse just because it'd give me something more interesting to do than wake up and go to work in the morning. Then I remember I'd probably die/starve.

But werewolves are totally not as cool as the zombie apocolypse, that the the end-times scenario I'm rooting for.

You're thinking about my penis right now, aren't you?

I like this article, it's an excerpt from a book about how America ain't hot shit no more.

What I love is the arguements for isolationalism. That's a pipe dream if I've ever heard one. We've sold ourselves out to every nation on the planet, and even if we want to go back, we can't. We need something to break the mold, to shake things up, to inject some severe weirdness into daily life. One way of doing that, I figure, is electing a secret-Muslim-chain-smoking-big-eared black guy. Just for shits and giggles, if nothing else.

Also, fuck war, blah blah blah, but really, until we smash apart the defense industry, that's not gonna end. Lockheed-Martin, Colt, Dow Chemical, etc. etc., have more to do with foreign policy than most people care to realize.

In any sort of post-apocalyptic world, I would live only a little longer than I can maintain a viable supply of insulin. So without electricty in warm weather, I've got a few weeks, maybe a couple months

As for isolationism, that's one of the biggest problems with nutjobs like Ron Paul and Pat Buchannan.

I've been out for a while, so I'll be attempting to respond to a couple of pages of posts in one shot. Please bear with me.

Ron Paul has NEVER endorsed the fair tax. If you can find evidence that shows otherwise, I'd love to see it. Everytime he's spoken of the IRS he has explicitly stated that he planned on not replacing it with anything. If the budget were cut by the current amount taken in by the income tax, the budget would return to the levels of 1997. We still had streets and electricity back then...

As for the DoE, it has done nothing to help America. Compared to the rest of the world, America has consistently gotten dumber. And in what way would education be segregated and unequal? Certainly, the bathrooms would not be labeled "Men," "Women," and "Colord" by simply removing a federal bureaucracy. And pretending that funding schools through property taxes hasn't already caused insanely large differences between inner-city and suburban schools is just insane.

McCain's age didn't matter until he picked Palin for a running mate. Now there's a distinct chance that someone who believes that the United States is fighting a holy war might know the nuclear launch codes.

I agree with Rasputin on become involved in local politics and whatever that was about werewolves even though (s)he called McCain Cheney. I might move to New Hampshire to help the Free State Project along. Live free or die, bitches!

Pre-emptive nuclear strikes and economic warfare are much better.

The hell's wrong with that? Why should an uninvolved group die for another groups problems? The reason we were attacked on 9/11 was because of America's unwavering support of Israel. What the hell do they offer us?

Nah, yo. I just forgot to mention McCain's mid-inauguration stroke/sudden-onset alzheimers.

Either that, or I was just a bit too baked to be writing.

not touching McCain's age, because I really don't think it's that big of an issue. Anyone who falls back on that argument is doing a pretty weak job of making whatever point it is they have.

Well, regardless of Ron Paul's endosrement or lack thereof, I hope I made a pretty good case again the "fair tax," which several Florida Republicans congressional candidates HAVE endorsed. I would REALLY love to see the math on that thing about not replacing the income tax
with anything, and how that would return us to 1997 budget levels. I don't think that makes any sense even if you don't adjust for inflation.

As for a lack of a DOE and segregation, I think you misunderstood me. The segregation would not be based on race or gender, but by class and geography. You're right about property taxes already causing inequality int he schools, adn getting rid of the DOE would only make it far worse. Only rich areas would be able to afford schools, because without the DOE, there would be no funding mechanism except for that provided by local sources. A few states might step up to the plate, but as it is now, most states only provide their schools with somewhat equal funding so that they can qualify for additional funds from the federal government.

If you are arguing for the government to get out of the business of schooling children altogether, then you are basically endorsing a de facto pre-capitalist class system, where the vast majority gets no education.

American schools do have their fair share of problems, but the DOE is not the problem. Comparing them to schools in other countries is inherently problematic because those countries have entirely differently structured societies. And all of those countries with schools better than the US have something similar to the DOE. Schools need reform to deal with modern problems, but dismantling the DOE and/or starting over is not the answer.

almost forgot to address isolationism. The only nuclear strike I can think of was in WWII, so either you're using that way out of context, or you are assuming one of the candidates would launch a strike. *cough* mccain *cough*

In theory, I agree that economic warfare on the part of America and the multi-national corporations that pull our strings has been one of the most damaging courses to shape the 20th century, but completely retrating from all international agreements and isolating ourselves ecnomically is not only not the solution, but it is not even possible.

Globalism has already happened, it can't be stopped. There is a ton of shit where first world countries and unchecked capitalist groups like multinational corporations and the WTO, IMF, and World Bank have raped the rest of the world for their own greed, but unilaterally pulling out of all global events is a completely retarded idea. The WTO does need to be dismantled entirely though.

I feel relieved knowing I already voted yesterday, so next week I don't have to wait in long lines last second. Especially after trying to recover from the Fest.

So . . . I'm getting drunk on State street in Chicago, watching the Obama rally from a rooftop a block away from Grant Park. The crowd is massive, we could hear them cheer when Obama took Ohio.

I got a nice buzz on too.

Fox News just called Ohio for Obama... now I am pretty damn sure he is the next president.

Seriously, this is pretty cool . . . my buddy's apartment building is filled with drunken liberals partying on the roof. I suspect every Republican in Chicago is hiding out right now, because I just got a case of Old Style for $20 as opposed to $23 because I was wearing an Obama button.
