i think if anyone frequents these boards frequently and is willing to give their time that maybe your fellow users can vouch for each other to suggest who they wouldn't mind being a spiffy brand spanking new moderator on here.

yeah peej is the only one that can ban, I just send him the names of people who constantly spam on the same names

actually I think more than anything what would help is a e-mail required for registration where you have to activate it from the e-mail

also the spam always gets worse on the weekends because every now and then we actually are forced to leave the computer. it's rare but it does sometimes happen

At a board I am a mod at, we manually validate the first few posts of each new member. Even moderating the first two posts would eliminate 99% of spammers. It so far has been the most successful thing we have tried in the 6 years I have been there.
