it's a great record there is no denying that
but you can't expect anything to top Midwestern Songs of the Americas

it's a bummer is what it is. i dont feel like someone punched me in the face after i listen to it....

I feel the same way as i did after AM! released new wave.

I love that band and i love the dudes in it but that record just didn't stay in my cd player for hours and hours on end like the others did. Not my style.

I think that the d4 album bums me out more than that to be honest. Especially after 4 years in the making...that's just my opinion though. Still a great band. The songs have potential for still being awesome live but the cd just doesnt do it for me.

Six years actually.

I like this record, but it's no Vs. God. I'm with Ryan, I like to be confused after I listen to a D4 record.

The Shorebirds album is better. Seriously.

To me it sounds unfinished, the vocals especially. Erik seems to be singing so softy, Paddy sings maybe two songs and there's barely ANY back-ups or group parts. I keep expecting Paddy etc to come in on the choruses and stuff but it's like they just forgot to put it on.

I started to wonder if this is some kind of elaborate ruse, to 'leak' a fake album of rejected songs, then when the real ones comes out it's all different.. they've had enough time to write enough. I just can't quite beleive that in six YEARS, this was the best they came up with.

I enjoy it, I actually like it a lot. It's not what I was expecting, but then, I think that part of my brain exploded when AM! signed to a major.

The Brokedowns are out D4-ing D4 now anyway. Maybe they're not as hysterical, but New Brains for Everyone was awesome.

Honestly, it does sound a little flat, like quality-wise. Maybe it's only an early mix.

Not gonna lie...it's grown on me a little bit. Still not in a regular rotation though. Oh well...guess I'll wait another 6 years for the next one.

I feel like people forget that drinking a lot and doing drugs kills a shit load of braincells, how are you supposed to write genius with less braincells then you had? you should be happy they didn't break up like so many great bands and actually put out an album, also, chill the fuck out with all the negativity, on another note I'm sick of everyone picking a bands first album as their best, shit people progress I think I lost control of my own rant

I'm not saying their first album is their best...I like everything else aside from this pretty much the same. I really don't think it's because they drank and did drugs haha...I think they've just written a million songs and wanted to try something different...sometimes it works for bands...sometimes it doesn't.

aaahhhh my brain cells!

After seeing them play on Friday, I realized the new songs flow with the rest of their stuff perfectly. No less rockin' live, not in the slightest. Paddy even got a chance to go on a quasi-political rant about his friends losing their houses and all kinds of related shit before playing "Minimum Wage is a Gateway Drug." "Gainesville" was a highlight, too.

Soooo..

You guys read about all the brouhaha regarding the album leak and subsequent Mitch Clem strip?

Links to it all on www.punknews.org

Looks like a big ol can o worms, people gettin fired and blacklisted, Mitch Clem gettin a roasting from the guy that produced the album. Alternative Press gettin involved.

Interesting stuff.

Must say, i'm on team Clem.

Alternative Press is a giant stinking turd that leaves a greasy stain on my soul every time I touch its overwrought-hipster-soaked pages.

Mitch Clem, on the other hand, seems like a good guy, and draws funny pictures that I wholeheartedly enjoy.

Also, I understand concepts about supply and demand, but this whole thing seems endemic to me of the fact that punk is simply another fashion these days - the people who fought for it in the culture wars of the 80s have moved on, and with good reason - it's just more business, even if it's on a smaller scale.
