although I'm sure it's been mentioned before when your in Gainesville and you want something different hit up Gator Beverage, conveniently located on University Ave. in the middle of all the Fest action. easily the largest selection of stuff in town

Some of the Venues have Tucher or Blue Moon, that's about as close to a Weizen as you're gonna get a shows, but in between shows, there's plenty ot be drank. Gator Beverage has great selection. Stubbies, RIGHT in between several venues has huge selection of US, German, Belgian, etc, though they are a bit pricey. Also, that little wine shop just north of The Atlantic has some nice selection, and they'll chill a warm bottle for you in a bucket of ice if you ask nicely.

Shouldn't bottles in checked luggage be OK? I really fucking want to drink some Augustiner, but if you're living in Berlin now, you'd have to drive a few hours to find it.

thanks for the tips I'llc heck out those beers.. I'm sure I'll also try around a little for beer as well, when I'm another coutry I always like to have regional stuff as well... I'm just not a fan of stuff like bud, millers and so on..

I'll check for the augustiner here, I'm sure I'll be theoreticly able to find it, but germany has 1.300 breweries and even half of them is out of bavaria, so its sometimes really hard to find a special more regional beer in another town

but yes its hard to bring any liquid on the plane to the US and I heard horrible stories about the immigration lately.. they always asked you for your prefession, purpose of travel, searched your whole luggage but it even got harder... even being a booking agent and flying to a festival can get me in troble as they might doubt that I'm really only there for holiday..

Now you see, this is what makes me think that there is some discrepency between what's expected of beer from US and Euro festers. That Blue Moon stuff was a very average, tasteless pale beer with an orange wedge (?) floating in it, and I went to Gator Beverages and the selection didn't inspire me whatsoever.

note that I was not endorsing Blue Moon, I just said it's the closest thing to a Weizen that you'll find at most venues. People who don't know anything about beer talk about it like it's the greatest though.

I have a feeling that the selection at Gator Beverage didn't inspire you just because you're not familiar with the good stuff they got. You like hoppy beers? stouts and porters? ambers? barleywine? Hopefully we can meet up at Gator Beverage, I'll point you in the right direction. Maybe we can split a bomber of Great Divide Old Ruffian or something like that.

last time I was at Gator Beverage I for some reason purchased this

I would describe the taste as Tomato Soup with a pound of salt and a beer after taste. in other words it was awful

I still gotta find a place that sells the Jack and Coke mix in a can.

i think the only people who buy those tall boys of "chelada" are diong it as a goof. Are there enough people out there who like clamata juice in their beer for this to be distributed as widely as it is. First time i ever heard of it, we were playing a show in Missoula, MT and i thought those people were fucked. Now apparently there are enough fucked up people out there for this to be canned and sent all over the country.

I was vacationing in Orlando with my kids once and i went to the store and saw can's of "Beam&Coke", sounded like a good idea, so i bought a six pack. that shit was horrible, the worst tasting mix drink i've ever imbibed. I don't know how they fuck up beam and coke.

These days i can't mix liquor with cola, gives me a headache, and if you're drinking them all night, the last one (you know, the one your kinda nursing at 2am cause you're 3 sheets to the wind) gets a little warm and is the worst tasting thing ever. Fuck cola, i mix everything with juice or tonic water

My bf, who has drank the wall 3 times at Stubbies brought these in there one day as a gag. The barstaff wasn't thrilled.

And we have brought them over to people's houses trying to convince them to drink it.

Only one of our friends - one that regularly drunks tomato juice in his beer, actually liked it and chugged a few of them. Ugh.

this needs to happen. last year I ended up with natural ice lite, which got me drunk but didnt taste of anything. i dont like how none of the beer has the alcohol % on.. it can be difficult to gauge wether what you're buying is watery shit or what.
