yea PBR is definitely the best of the low-brow/low cost beers.

newcastle, killian red, blue moon are some the good mid-levels i enjoy

I would take PBR over any of those.

Newcastle is way too sweet. Blue Moon is OK, but WAY overpriced for the slightly higher than bud/miller/coors quality. and Killians is as bad as Yuengling.

and you fuckin' live in Tampa, one of the best "beer scenes" in Florida. If you had any sense, you'd be drinking Terrapin and Bell's.

Newcastle in a bottle is vegan, however in a can isinglass (fish oil) is used as a clarifier

yeah, that's a bummer too. It is all in how it's made. But yeah, I'm pretty new to this, but I'm learning.

I'm sure you already know that Murphys Irish Stout is vegan, but Guinness isn't. They're nearly indistinguishable, I think a couple places in Gainesville might have Murphys on tap.

"Thank you for taking time to contact Guinness. We appreciate hearing from our consumers because your feedback is important.

In reference to your inquiry, isinglass, a fish product, is used during the clarification process as a magnet to get rid of excess yeast in Guinness Draught. To the strict Vegan, this would be an animal product and unsuitable. However, the same process is not used to produce Guinness extra stout, and this product is considered to be vegan. I hope this helps. Once again, thank you for contacting us.

Sincerely
Scott Alcorn
Guinness Consumer Representative"

guinness "draught" is disgusting anyways, but i like their extra stout

Any microbrews you Florida natives can recommend to me to check out if i find a few minutes free?

I lived off Dogfish Head and Natty Light last time I was over- is there anything nearer the classier end of those extremes?

dude, it's hard to even know where to start.

I wish the venues in Gainesville would have Brooklyn Lager and Rogue Dead Guy on tap, I'm sure they'd sell plenty. Gator Beverage looks like a little hole in the wall, but they have an amazing beer selection, stouts, IPs, Belgians, everything. I know some of the venues have Anchor and Sierra Nevada in bottles.

my favorite IPA is Bells Two Hearted Ale, get a six pack. No really good FL breweries, but Terrapin Rye Pale Ale, out of Athens, GA, is probably the closest good beer. I could drink that shit all day long, it's very light bodied, but full of flavor.
