Mondays are one of my favorite nights to be in Gville because of karaoke! But I'm rarely there.
It doubles as my dance night and at some point I become everyone's backup singer. You know, after a few drinks.
I spent my BDay this year there by choice. Rather than dinner with friends or whatever else. I requested people sing me songs instead. It was AWESOME. Now if only I could sing better than a backup singer. I've actually considered taking vocal lessons for karaoke...hahaha

is Common Grounds karaoke just like a typical karaoke night, but happens to be at CGs, or is it cooler, and has a better selection of songs? I've got a dreamlist of songs to do at karaoke, but they never have them in the books.

There are some serious karaoke hobbists that go weekly. I think every karaoke night has some of these people. Like, they practice at home and bring their own damn karaoke CDs in. Some of them are REALLY good and put on a hell of a show!
Then there are the CGs regulars doing 80s dance hits, glam rock, southern rock, and country hits.
And THEN there are the annoying underagers that never go there and seem way out of place getting up and doing annoying as shit modern radio pop/rap hits. Or worse doing rap versions of GnR. I had to actually go outside one night that happened. I had to scream.
I don't know what you consider "a better selection of songs".

I dated a girl a few years back who was way into karaoke. But she also had a band too. So needless to say I ended up going out to karaoke nights all the time. It always blew me away at how serious people take it. Its not fun when people get upset because they cant hit that one note in "I will always love you".

Out of all of those, I've only ever heard Motorhead and Springsteen there. They might have the Ramones. You can pretty much forget the rest of those unless you bring in your own CD.

I think there would be a market for a line of karaoke discs featuring punk music. I wonder who I would have to talk to license out some songs, and start up a company? There are probably some bands I'd never be able to get, like I REALLY doubt anyone in Fugazi would let us do it, and Husker Du probably all hate each other and SST too much to sort out the legal bullshit.

Just about anything has been made to karaoke already. But not everywhere has all the CDs. I think most places rent the karaoke systems/dvds. So what they have, is what you get.
Then again, this place that claims to be "The World's Largest Karaoke Selection", doesn't have shit when i did a search for "punk":

The did have the Clash, the Ramones, the Pogues, DEVO, the Smiths... radio hits kinda stuff.
