anytime I watch soccer I root for Manchester
but that's probably do to the fact that I'm part Portuguese and my biased love of Nani and Ronaldo (even though there both fuck ups)

the cost of liver wrote: Move to Manchester. Seriously. It's fucking ace. There are nice places down south, Kingston undoubtedly being one, but only if you enjoy spending most of your income on rent and travel. You can get out of Manchester and in a half hour drive be in the countryside, it's near the Lake District for beautiful scenery and amazing hills, and erm... well, lakes. It's near Sheffield for the best shows in the country, but it's a more interesting place to live. There's plenty of cheap apartments/houses, it's great.
Oh and my flight cost around $600, Manchester to New York, not booked internals yet. You can get cheaper flights from the London airports but that's 5 hours away from me and a whole lot of hassle to get to.
You see, Kingston does have it's advantages...one of them being £2 and 40 minutes on the bus to Heathrow airport!

How can you be proud of a geographical location? It seems so arbitrary.. Everywhere is shit and everywhere is great. I want to be proud of me.
Also, 'pride' about a persons location and background leads towards such unhealthy conclusions that I really feel loathed to associate myself to one place in that way. I don't mind telling people where I'm from, but I don't see how there's anything to be 'proud' of because someone happened to be born/grew up in on particular place above another. It's not a choice you make, it's handed to you through pure luck.

A Smelt is a type of tiny North American fish or a chemical reaction used to separate metals.
(But yeah, you can say smelt or smelled too.)

thats one point of view. but i want to know where people are from, what it means to them, how its made them who they are, in a good or bad way, i don't know... i think its incredibly healthy, but thats just me. it's not "i'm from manchester so fuck you" its "i'm from manchester, where are you from? let's swap stories and be friends!"
you get out of it what you put into it, but it does mean something. of course its handed to you through luck, but then so is your entire personality, really. to an extent anyway.

didn't see this threat earlier.. I'm from Berlin / Ger and paying 623€ for my flight, but I fly from Berlin to Tampa, then from Tampa to San Francisco and back home from Los Angeles... took me a lot of research on mcflight.de to find it..
but thru my job I know its currently cheaper to buy flights from the US and in case your flexible with your destination, of course its often cheaper if you go to the "major" airport of the airline/ country... Each big european airline has their "home" airport (Lufthansa = Frankfurt / BA = London / KLM = Amsterdam and so on), just connecting to the rest of the country from there..
