well my question fits in this thread nicely

if I wanted to move to the UK where should I live?
and anyone want to hire me to edit/film stuff? =)

In my belly button :) you can film and edit my belly button.

what type of insurance plan does your belly button offer?

Full lint coverage I imagine.

And no co-pay!

Gotta love that U.K. universal care.

No fluff in this badboy, I think you need belly pubes to cultivate that stuff. But its warm and cosy. You will enjoy the benefits of the national health service, and the benefits of living in a belly button. Which admittedly are quite limited.

London Heathrow - Orlando return with KLM/NWA was about US $330. This isn't direct and involves a bit of plane hoping though.

Don't take this as any sort of guide though. A few of us have managed to get some absurd deals and this is most certainly not the norm or something I expect to find again in the future.

It's also worth pointing out that the prices tend to vary a lot if booked the other way round...ie US-UK-US.

One tip, don't necessarily rely on US sites to search for the best flights out of the US. A lot of the UK bunch have used Orbitz US as opposed to a UK site and I booked through an Aussie site for a flight that goes no where near Australia at all!

that is insanely cheap!

my ticket, Heathrow to Orlando return (one change both ways) was about $700 bucks. like people said, thats by no means the best deal you can get.. but it's probably about average if you dont shop around loads.

Yeah I must admit I was pretty pleased with the deal. I think that's gonna make it three years running I've managed to get the best UK flight price for Fest!

It's shit here, don't bother. Just come for a nice long holiday till you realise its rubbish.

edit: kingston is well good though. thats where i live when im at uni, and where timmy lives. 15mins on the train from central london, but also got its own stuff going on, which is nice.

Kingston is a good place to live. As you say it's near London so not as cheap as somewhere up north but we have a great diy music scene and being so close to London we can easily get to any part of the country using the trains.

If you did wanna move here then I can help you out finding accommodation etc and can put you in touch with people in most other parts of the country if Kingston doesn't appeal to you.

Move to Manchester. Seriously. It's fucking ace. There are nice places down south, Kingston undoubtedly being one, but only if you enjoy spending most of your income on rent and travel. You can get out of Manchester and in a half hour drive be in the countryside, it's near the Lake District for beautiful scenery and amazing hills, and erm... well, lakes. It's near Sheffield for the best shows in the country, but it's a more interesting place to live. There's plenty of cheap apartments/houses, it's great.

Oh and my flight cost around $600, Manchester to New York, not booked internals yet. You can get cheaper flights from the London airports but that's 5 hours away from me and a whole lot of hassle to get to.

Also kinda on topic, but in reverse...

How the hell does someone get to move to the States and just.. be normal in terms of work and living and shit? I have no discernable talents or qualifications, no education to speak of and about $20 in the bank.

Who wants me?

Just stay in Gainesville and you're good to go.

Oh, and $500 Manchester to New York/Newark return. Plenty of bargains to be had, and Manchester isn't the cheapest of airports to fly from/into.

If you need any tour help, just shout. There's a show in Manchester with your name on when you want to come over. I think actually.. my favourite and most reliable of all UK gig-putter-onners are.. on this forum. Fucking weird, but very cool.

It is really, really tempting. I have no doubts that the US is big enough to just fuck off into and not be found. Plenty of immigrant manual jobs to get by, places to live on the downlow blahblah. I'd be keen to find out what happens if they did find you, or you tried to just fly out of the country. "How was your vaca... what the fuck? This tourist visa is from 5 years ago!" If I could get over the 'never touring or travelling anywhere other than the US for the rest of my life' vs 'never going back to the US once I'd been thrown out' thing, I'd be set.

Saying that.. I've toured the UK, I've toured Japan.. if I can get a Euro tour and a few shows in Sweden before Fest.. I'm pretty much done and ready to roll.

Took the words right out of my mouth! We've got everything you could ever want here, with the added benefit of it all being packed into a pretty small space, unlike London or whatever.

i've thought about it and it's pretty tempting
and with the work I do it's not that hard to find some freelance jobs

but then I would have to pay for a flight/hotel every year for The Fest. so I don't see myself leaving Gainesville anytime soon

I'm way too much of a wuss to do it anyway Tim, I'm sure US immigration would take one look at my cuddly bear exterior and go "Pft, as if he's got the balls... come on through big guy!"

I'd rather be able to work for realz and not have to constantly change my appearance to keep the fedz guessing though, hence why I was asking about how a normal guy would go about moving legit-style. Appreciate your concern, however even a full battery of airport military isn't going to keep me from Fest.. :D
