A tip for those who can't get/don't want a credit card and maybe thinking about those prepaid cards: I've just opened a FlexAccount with Nationwide and have been given a Visa debit card. Like the credit card, there's no charges for withdrawals or purchases overseas and it'll be more widely accepted than Maestro. I don't plan on making it my main account. I'm just going to top up the account with spending money before I go.

maestro is fine for withdrawing money overseas, you just can't pay for things directly with it

Is that right?
I was gonna get a travelcard but if you can use Maestro then i'll be sorted. Can you use it in any ATM then? Or only certain ones?
