If it stops being MAX I'll be really pissed. the least they could do is keep it bloody.

Except that Karl Kesel's run right before Kevin Smith took over is criminally underrate. Kevin Smith was actually a big step down in terms of writing (though the art got a lot better... Cary Nord, who was the artist on DD at the time, has since found his knack, and his work looks awesome now, but he was still finding his feet then)
Brian Michael Bendis runs neck and neck with Frank Miller for the great Daredeveil writer.

Sam Kieth's first serious published work is really good, it's called "Epicurus The Sage." basically it's a bastardization of ancient Greek myths and philosophy. The last story they did kind of sucked, but the rest was good. It's available in a nice oversized trade, big pages.

Y: the last man was great....Walking Dead is taking over its spot on current runs. Fables started to become good again (wasn't a big fan of the Arabian Nights storyline) Teenagers From Mars is a fucking awesome book. I've only read one other book by Rick Spears and I forget what it was called, it was a black and white crime tpb but it was pretty cool, really quick read. And the Walking Dead is single-handedly the best zombie story I've ever been exposed to. The characters are fully fleshed out, the action and gore is all there, and best of all it just keeps going and going. I home Kirkman never stops. Also a fan of his Invincible and Wolfman series. But I gotta say the two writers who will never fail to keep my interest are Warren Ellis and Garth Ennis. Transmetropolitan and Preacher by these dudes respectively are INCREDIBLE stories. They're all over and done with and in trade paper back so if anyones interested go to your local comic book store right now. I used to be into Marvel mainly; all sorts Daredevil, Spider-man, X-Men mostly. Now it's just a few of the better Marvel series and random mature shit i can find. Daredevil remains being amazing ever since Kevin Smith brought him back in 98. And Joss Whedon was doing a good job on Astonishing X-Men at the start but he got stale...and through some miracle they got Warren Ellis to take over and it is the shit.
i've had the trade for awhile now. i just bought some of the issues (teenagers from mars) yesterday.
how far up to date are you on Walking Dead, because it just keeps getting better.
have you checked out the Boys by Ennis. it got dropped from vertigo because it was too fucked up. it still comes out on Dynamite
i like Whedon/Cassady's run on Astonishing more than Ellis/Bianchi. partly because i hate how Bianci draws Wolverine.

I vaguely remember something about this. I'll need to check it out again. LOVE Sam Keith.

as big a Daredevil fan as I am (favorite character in the Marvel U) I only have what loose issues i can find, and anything put in trade. all i know about the end of vol. 1 is something about Murdock waking up one day with amnesia, in france, totally forgetting he was DD.
And Miller's stuff is classic, I mean the stories were just phenomenal. Kingpin totally broke Matt down so hard, to the point of near insanity. But Bendis did an amazing job, with what else but his dialogue. the pacing was so good, and Alex Maleev should have stayed on Daredevil and Punisher. That dark style really did wonders for the feel of the book. I'm liking Brubaker so far, but its just not up to snuff.

For anyone else that loves Syd Mead as much as me:
Shrapnel: new comic featuring Syd Mead's designs
Shrapnel, a new graphic novel series featuring Mead's mecha designs, debuts at this week at Comic-Con in San Diego. The story was spawned from a video game by Mark Long of Zombie Studios. He ended up collaborating with Nick Sagan (Carl's son) and M. Zachary Sherman to turn it into a comic book. They hope a feature film will follow. I wouldn't be surprised -- the promotional video for the graphic novel is quite powerful. From Zombie Studios:
Shrapnel focuses on a future where humanity has reached out and colonized the Solar System and a Solar Alliance governs the planets similarly to the way ancient Rome dominated over their territories. Venus, the last free colony in the system, must do what it can to battle the domineering Marine forces of the Alliance in order to remain sovereign. Unbeknownst to the Marines, or even the Colonists themselves, one of the Alliance’s greatest heroes has exiled herself on the lost planet, hoping to escape the life she once knew as a soldier. Now, pulled back into the fold, she must teach the Colonists how to fight for their freedom and come to terms with her own past.
