I was just curious how many festers were vegetarian/vegan. I remember when it used to be rare to meet someone else who 86'd the meat, now I'm finding it to be the complete opposite.

I've been meatless for a year. And within the past couple months, I've moved on to a vegan diet. It's working wonderfully. One of the more sound choices I've ever made. And now that it's the norm for me I don't see myself being any other way (insert heckling here). I don't go around shouting it from rooftops however, this is probably all you'll hear me talk of it. It's my own choice, which is really nothing more than not eating things others might in conjunction with my personal sense of right and wrong. Some people really champion it, almost as if they have some kind of "look at me, I've got something to prove" complex going on. I never chose this to be cool, and it kind of perturbs me when people do. Feeling like it cheapens it into a fashion statement . Like yoga or thing of that ilk. I'm really the only person I know near me who is vegan besides my friend Jeremy, who turned me onto it. But I never see him much since he's usually too broke to leave the house. So I'm pretty stoked to meet some cool cats who hold some of the same ideals I have, and gettin' down to partying!

WHAT!!!!! I mean I'm all for eating healthy or whatever, I think meat tastes great but somehow I ended up vegetarian by association pretty much and I don't really miss it per say but I do see it sometimes and be like damn, i want that but I dont just because I've been vegetarian for a while. THE SPIRITS, CHIEF THE SPIRITS GOT ME! AHHHHH!
on the other hand there is no way I would/could ever go vegan because I love eggs , milk, ice cream, and I love cheese that doesn't taste like plastic. I also have already lost too much weight from being vegetarian let alone vegan. On top of that...I hate peta...that's right...I said it! Those pushy bastards.

Peta funnels money to A.L.F., so I guess they're ok by me. Cheese that melts would be rad. But it's a small price to pay I think.

my ex was vegetarian and was also vegan for a year of our relationship, so i was pretty much vegetarian for that amount of time, but i do like meat, i try and buy organic and free range meat, if i can, and from local sources so i know wheres its come from, but i'm down with the veggie/vegan lifestyle as longs as its not being pushed on me all the time,

currently vegetarian. i notice such an amazing difference in my health as a vegetarian compared to when i used to eat meat. i'm currently heading towards veganism. i've already cut eggs, cheese, milk, etc. from my diet but i need to also do a lot more research on other smaller ingredients in food that come from animals, such as gelatin, casein, whey, et cetera.

I was vegetarian for about 3 1/2 years but I could no longer deny myself the salty, tender awesomeness that is pork(in all forms). I caught all kinds of shit from friends and especially co workers. Being a mechanic kind of forces you to work in a giant pool of narrow minded, redneck, nascar-loving douche bags. I still eat tons of vegetarian alternatives to meat. I happen to think that Morningstar sausage patties are better than any real sausage patties I've ever had. But bacon has yet to be duplicated in a non-meat form. If it ever does I would consider being vegetarian again.

i'm a new vegetarian. i like it a lot. i have considered going vegan, but i haven't really established the best veggie diet yet so far. i'm having enough trouble getting protein as is (tips?). it's been a process, but one that i have enjoyed.

I'm vegetarian. I was vegan for about eight years. I've gotten pretty fat though, so I think I may go vegan again

I was a vegetarian for years, but then developed some shitty allergies:
soybeans
beans in general
lentils
strawberries
coconut oil
You wouldn't believe the shit that soy is in - chewing gum, all commercially made bread, 95% of the canned soup, dressings, even deli meats - yeah its a filler, unbelievable. Pretty much everything in the center of the grocery store has soy in some form in it. Most restaurants use either 100% soybean oil or a soy blend for oil for any cooking they do.
Soy is the 3rd most fertilized crop in the US and in general I'm sure its fertilized with the same shit everything else is.
We have locally grown/farmed tofu & tempeh here in Gainesville. (not that I can eat it) I'm certainly not an authority on any of the above, but its an interesting thing to stop and think about how Americans eat so many processed foods full of soybeans all the time.
And I am definitely not science-y, but I think kids developing sooner has as much to do with hormones in products as I think its the amount of soy the are ingesting in their processed kid foods and happy meals every day.
call me crazy, but I don't care.

What's up with PETA sending me e-mails telling me how crucially important to the welfare of animals it is for me to go to KFC and order their Vegan Chicken products? Seriously, after supporting that organization for several years, I hold nothing but contempt for them.
Oh yeah, and I've been a vegan for a long time, but like others, really dislike preachy, in-your-face veganism. No vegan tattoos, nicknames like 'vegan mike', or getting in my friends faces about eating meat for me. If people want to know more about my vegan lifestyle, I'm more than happy to sit down and talk to them about it thoroughly, but I do not feel the need or use to impose it on people, it only alienates and angers them towards the ideas of vegetarianism.
On a sidenote, has anyone seen the movie "Earthlings". I tried to show it to my ex-girlfriend, and she was mad at me for about 2 weeks.
