OK, so I had this great idea.
we find an empty storefront around downtown, and find out how much it would cost to rent it for 3 days. Make sure it has AC. Then get a ton of carboard boxes, like we order them from the post office or some shit, they'll be free. We label them all with numbers, and put them behind a desk.
For a small fee, we let people put all their shit in the boxes while they are festing. We give them a receipt, with the number of their box. That way, they don't have to haul all their stuff back to their hotels, or risk records melting in cars.
we just have to figure out how many people we'd need to run this operation, and how much the 3 days office rental would cost.
of course even though this is my idea, I don't wanna do it, I'm gonna be too busy festing.

i feel like this is the post that ends up by november 5th being"oh my god, i can't believe some dickhead stole all the vinyl from the lockers, i lost my shirts and my laptop"
how hard is it to get stuff from the venues to the hotel? i had assumed everything was fairly close together.

Its quite a walk from just about any hotel to the venues/food. And after day 2 you aren't feeling as awesome as you were the first day. I think everyone here will admit they could do with more hanging out and less walking to their hotel.
And as I am proof, you shit isn't safe in your car.
This has the basis of a good idea but I can't think of where on earth this would be located. Not a lot of empty storefront/office type places downtown. And finding someone who want to run this and NOT Fest is going to be a pretty hard task.
Sorry, I wouldn't trust my stuff to Fest volunteers watching it either. No offense to anyone, but I don't know you well enough to say "here keep an eye on my backpack full of merch." Let alone $1000+ in camera gear.

I think there is definitely a need to be filled here, but a LOT of logistics to work out.

I'm just gonna hide my stuff in a dumpster or something. I mean no one really goes dumpster diving anymore. Except for me when I am retrieving the stuff that I hid there

HA! I hope you're joking. That is the perfect way to get your stuff stolen. People have already been talking about going dumpster diving at the Fest on this board.

Lockers are a great idea. Cardboard boxes watched over by volunteers: not so much. Is there a storage company in the vacinity that would be interested in doing something like this?
If you're not at the Holiday Inn, the walk is a pain.

THIS is why the Fest Flea Market was such a righteous idea.
Bands do their merch during the daytime...like the No Idea sale.
(if you've never been and like NI stuff...go!)
Buy shit during the daytime...get fucked at night...don't lose your stuff.

Better than lockers would be yellow bike ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Community_bicycle_program) or a cheap local bike rental company. Most hotels are somewhat within a ten minute bike ride...but do your research or you'll end up at a hotel on I-75
