Ain't no Southern hospitality in these parts!
Last time I went to Austin I was so pleasantly pleased with career servers who actually like their jobs. Here we have kids with masters, who are hungover and can't be bothered to care. (probably equally bitter by as much as they get stiffed by kids and drunks who don't tip)
Very few places here has good service and if you get the right person at any of those places you do get good service. So get their name if they are awesome. Make nice-nice and ask for them by name next time. It does work.

it's on 49th St. a bit of a drive from the Trop but not too far. Dairy Inn is right up the street from the Trop and isn't a bad substitute but isn't as eye catching as Biff Burger is.

There's Virtually Cuban way down on SW 13th, almost near the Paramount. I thought Flaco's was usually the jam enough to not have to go there. Even though it was closer to where I lived.

there is a place above the pita pit on university that is pretty good, my favorite cuban is Mi Apa Latin Cafe, it's near the corner of 34th and University, stays open pretty late too.
