how old are you? my dad is 54, and I'm 27. So when he was my age, I was an infant.

That's pretty crazy. My sympathies for your dad, I hope he's doing better.
My dad turned fifty last year, my mom made paper masks of his face for everyone to wear at this surprise party. My friend got him drunk on whiskey-cokes. It was cool.

Wow this thread makes me feel old! If my dad was still alive he'd be nearly 80 by now!

My parents both hit 60 this year. My mum got sent an old persons' bus pass, she was appalled.
Hope your dad gets better, Chewy.

you think 50 is old? try having parents that are vampires. not sure if you know this or not, but vampires are immortal. they live forever. my mom is like 8,349, and my dad is like 5,792.
what the fuck do you buy someone for their big 5-0-0-0 birthday?

yeah Chewy, hope your Pops is back on the up-and-up.
and pukeonthestreet -- i know what you mean. Every year as I write my dad his birthday cards, it never fails, I begin to think about his life and how he grew up and what he experienced. And of course it doesn't help that I work side by side with one of my dad's best friends (I guess I follow in my dad's foot steps a little bit) and he's always telling stories my dad would probably be reluctant to share. haha.
Older generations fascinate me. I love hearing about people living on the road and out of their cars and traveling nomadicly. Or about the protests in the sixties and seventies. It's all so fascinating. Or about growing up during war time, when the women went to work in the factories and the men were at war.
There are amazing stories waiting to be told behind each of those faces. Man, gimme some of your crazy grandparents any day -- I've only got one left and she's not interested in talking about anything but her obsession with Elvis.

well I'm only 20 so thinking about being 50 and knowing how much shit he has crammed into his life is insane, my dad is probably the nicest person you could ever meet too, he's not a drinker so he wouldn't buy you a beer but he'd probably buy you a car if you needed one and he knew you were my friend, not even kidding and we're not well off at all, and Chewy sorry to hear that man but really glad he's doing better.
