OK, I'm bored and sitting at home waiting for the Dauntless Elite guys to get back from breakfast so we can head off to the pub so to kill a few minutes I thought I'd post this little bit of info for tight/skint bastards like me that try and save pennies at every opportunity.

For those of you that plan to pay for stuff out there by credit card you should get one from Nationwide. I think they're the only UK credit card supplier that don't charge a percentage for overseas purchases. There's no annual fee so it will cost you nothing but apply now rather than at the last minute. I've done 5 US trips in the last couple of years and always leave it too late to apply for one then kick myself when my visa statement comes in and I've been charged just for using the card. I now have one and I'm saving it for the trip so I can buy too many records and too much merch and be skint again for christmas!

Yeah, the guys in the Tartan Army are always going on about this, I've never quite got around to doing it. Although in fairness, the Bank of Scotland only charge a flat fee of £1.50, rather than a percentage. Although that does mean you end up taking out far more than you need at one time to make it cheaper.

damn Brits, with your good money. Records in the US must seem ridiculously cheap for you.

hmm, this is tempting. However being a student i think my credit rating is shot to shit anyways.

Last time i was in the US the co-operative charged me £20 for 5 cash withdrawals. That hurt.

You're not wrong. I got the Dauntless Elite album for $5 in Wayward last year, where if I'd bought it here it would've cost around $10-12 (and that's still cheap for a record here). Mind you, it did mean that every time I bought any records I donated heaps to Wayward because I couldn't believe how cheap it was.

Not just records, everything is ridiculously cheap. But that's not really the case, we're just used to paying absolutely sick amounts for everything over here.

Don't get anyone over here started on recent 'gas' prices...

i might be tempted to get a nationwide cc, i used a cash passport last year mainly to avoid the charges for withdrawing using my normal debit card

Yeah, it was a bit of a shitty thing to do as I should be supporting UK labels but I actually ordered the Dauntless cd from No Idea as even with postage it worked out cheaper than buying it here!

Haha, I'm telling Steve Bombed Out on you! To be honest I probably wouldn't have bought it if I hadn't seen it that cheap in Wayward so it worked out well in that sense.

well, it's not really a message.. but this image file is small enough to make it easy to spot, but when you're holding an LP version right in your face its pretty much invisible.

see it now?

Even then it took me a full minute to spot it.
