11:30AM at Gainesville at the ABC Motel. I'm standing on the balcony, looking at the parking lot in my boxer shorts, smoking a cigarette when my neighbor comes out of the room next to me. We chat a bit, then he takes the beer he's been holding and cracks it open.
"Yeah," I say, looking at him, "I guess it is time to start drinking." Then I make myself a tall glass of Ten-High whiskey and orange juice. As far as I'm concerned, at Fest, breakfast is whiskey.

one of my favorite small things was on Friday morning, way before any Fest related stuff started. I had just gotten into town, and was walking past The Venue, still wearing my work clothes (just a plaid shirt) and some guy was loading stuff in the service door. I was very tired, since I had worked the night shift.
either by my beard or just the look in my eye, he knew why i was in town. and he goes "WOOO!!! Fest!" and we high five. great start to the weekend. |
