Okay, new rough plans...

My current plan/vague plotting is as such;

23/10/07 - fly into New York
23-27/10/07 - Fuck about in NY/NJ inc. bowling at Asbury Lanes
including with a Young Livers show on the 26th, and muchos tourist
bullshit and tomfoolery.
28/10/07 - fly to Gainesville, hire a car/minivan, sleep in it.
29/10/07 - drive to Tampa with as many van buddies I can muster to
split some of the costs.
29/10/07 - pre-fest show in Tampaaaaaaaa! TCOL are playing, fuck!
30/10/07 - back in Gainesville, take the van back, book into Holiday Inn.
31st - 2nd - FESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSST!
3rd-6th - work my way back up the east coast.
06/11/07 - fly home, crying.

As above, except.. this year, not last year. Oops.

That plan sounds good. We flew NY-GNV on the Tuesday last year. Got into Gainesville late afternoon, chilled for a bit, went out for food and beer then had a good rest before the Fest fun started.

Is there any reason you plan to sleep in the van on the Tuesday? A room in somewhere like the Comfort Inn is only about 35 quid. If I fly on the Tuesday too which I may well do then I'd be up for splitting it.

I'll probably be able to host whoever is coming into Gainesville Tuesday for the Wednesday pre-fest show in Tampa, unless sleeping in a van is really comfortable and I'm just missing out on something. I know I'll be attempting to make the trip to Tampa and then back to Gainesville Thursday

I will also be headed down there from Long Island with people. We're looking to get a hotel and party. Party up on Long Island before the Fest!

Only reason I suggested sleeping in the van is because £35 spent on a hotel room is £35 I could be spending on booze/merch..

Jeremy, that would be insanely awesome. I shall PM.

Secondly.. what is the feasibility of hiring a sizable passenger van in New Jersey, and then either i) finding a company that has an office in Gainesville (or another Florida town within an easy distance of G-ville..) or ii) that would do some hellaciously cheap rental for a 12 person passenger van (or similar..), cheap enough to make it worth my while to drive it back up.

DANIEL!!!!!!! I think you are reading my mind- my girlfriend and I have been considering flying to New York then hiring a minivan to drive down the east coast over 3 days or so (and back again)- stopping off to do weird tourist shit and maybe see some shows. I thought it was alot further than 1000 miles down cos thats nothing, I don't mind sharing the driving etc.etc. Change your mind back, flying is boring!

(Maybe we could do a Chillerton/TCOL 'Brits Abroad East Coast Tour'? Just a show or two each way and lots of eating)

Argh, don't get my hopes up because it'll break my heart if this couldn't happen!

I've still no idea what my plans will be. I'm very tempted with the NY beforehand thing though.

Ngggggggggg! The Cost Of Living east coast tour before Fest was the original of the most original plans! Started off as a proposed 2 week tour down from Boston to Gainesville, then kept getting truncated to the "uh, one pre-fest show in Tampa." TCOL abroad you see before you..

Google maps says that Newark, NJ to Gainesville, FL is 998 miles. If we hired a 12 seater, that's Chillerton + 'crew', and TCOL and 'crew' and a couple spare, I think.

NEW PLAN (providing everyone goes for it.. fuck, you had me with 'and lots of eating..') then.. christ, I don't know, but I'm up for it. If t'others are interested, can we pleasepleasepleaseplease..

i) get a show together at Asbury Lanes. Holy fuck.
ii) play in Philly
iii) do the rest of the driving in one day?

We'd also save money on hiring a van in G-ville to drive to Tampa I guess. We'd just need to find a killer deal on a van in New Jersey/New York.

I reluctantly made those vague plans, and now they've been thrown into disarray! :o

If you guys end up with any space then I may be up for coming with you depending on the timescale you plan on doing it in. Either way I definitely think you should try and play at Asbury lanes...I'll come to that no matter what my plans are!

Two week tour is pretty different to playing a show or two each way! You've just reminded me that there's a limit to the number of days I can book off work in a row. :( I might just shift some of the ones booked after the Fest to before.
