It was a sad joke. Sorry guys, when you grow up an realize that anarchy isn't so cool afterall, and the only way you can make a positive change for your life is to vote (rather than not voting). Yeah, I once didn't vote or voted a write-in name like "Snoopy" because I didn't like any of my options. And where did it get me? The worst president of all times, a never ending senseless war, and the highest gas prices ever. Think about it.

I hate talking politics amongst peers more than anything, but I felt that needed to be said. I'm not here to argue but rather to say something that is against the ignorance that too often seems to accompany the average punk rock mentality.

It's nice to be jaded I guess. I voted for John Kerry. And we can all see what I got. Ahhhh, the wonders of the electoral college. If I ever start caring about people who represent me but share none of my interests, I don't want to live anymore.

It really bothers me when I go on sites like these where "the punx" are supposed to be and I see negative criticism of other peoples opinions. Almost as if one's saying "how dare you think differently than I?!". So, I don't really need any of your "When You Grow Up" spiel. Elitism and the Fest don't go together. I guess what I'm saying is... if you don't have anything nice to say, then don't.

I voted for Kerry too and I'm just saying that not voting isn't going to help either. I feel like I made a mistake not voting all those years, and I'm here to admit that, as an "aging punk"...hehe

Just as you found my reply to be negative, I found your "don't vote" remark to be a negative approach. What kind of punk movement would it be to lay down and die and leave our rights in the hands of others, without even giving it our best shot?

A positive action on our part would be if all of the THOUSANDS of people going to the Fest this year voted early. That would really take them off guard. I'm certain many politicians expect us to do nothing.

There has pretty much NEVER been a presidential candidate that entirely shares my views. Sadly, it seems that we (the punk rock community) are a minority for the most part, grasping for any kind of hope for a leader that represents us.

If we met in person you'd realize that I'm far from being an elitist or a jerk... quite sarcastic though, yes. But very friendly and helpful to complete strangers. And as much as we both LOVE horror, we'd just have to be friends in person.

I hate talking politics on message boards because it never seems to come across very nice if you have a different viewpoint. I completely avoid this stuff in person with friends.

To me, telling people to vote is negative and "lying down". Accepting this as "that's just how it is" or "just how it works". It all depends on how you're looking at it. And that drink will be on me Ms. Jana. There'll be no badblood at the Fest. Not on my watch.

funny aside- when i first registered to vote, I jokingly wrote down my party as "anarchist." Hopefully this doesn't mean I now have a file with the FBI somewhere.

when my card came in the mail later, it said "no party affiliation" which is a whole lot better than some friends of mine who wrote down "independent" and got registered as a member of one of the dozens of actual parties with the word "Independent" in their name, which range from fundamentalist Christian parties, to Green Party off-shoots, to offshoots of Ross Perots' Reform Party.

I wanted to vote Nader in 2000, but I chickened out and voted for Al Gore. So don't blame me for GW.
