I've tried, and I don't get it. Someone please explain to me this band and why everyone loves them. This has happened to me before with bands that I now love such as Lifetime, Kid Dynamite, and The Bouncing Souls. It's an honest question seeking honest answers.
P.S.

go sit on your front porch, drink a cold beer and smoke a joint, and listen to them. think of it as a personal experience rather than a community one the way most punk is. try the song unsatisfied. great song to chill out to.

You're not the only one mate...a few of my close mates rave about them but I never really got it either. I liked Sorry Ma and Stink but after that I'm not interested at all.

I love them now, but I honestly didn't always. I had friends that listened to them in the in Gville constantly back in the early 90s. I just wasn't ready for them at the time.
Chances are you know Replacements songs and aren't even aware of it. There are quite a few bands that cover them.
Speaking of:
1-2-3-4 Go! Records put out a Replacements tribute release in the last couple years, you may wean yourself into liking them that way. There are some really great bands on it.

for a long time I was only so-so on The Replacements. I always liked them, but only in the past year or so have I really been getting into it. They still have some forgettable filler on a few albums, but when they hit it, they're great.

I was like that with them for a long while.. the song that got me wasn't anything from 'Sorry Ma..' or 'Stink' like with a lot of people, but rather Bastards Of Young from 'Tim'.. something about his voice and the melody hits me just right. watch a vid set to the music here:

(Having said all that, songs like 'Goddamn Job' and 'Careless' are still fucking tunes )

fucking kudos to 1234GO for putting out that tribute. Tribute albums usually suck, but that one is great from start to finish. I wonder if Paul Westerberg has heard it.
Favorite Replacements album: Pleased to Meet Me....I know I'm weird, but Skyway and Alex Chilton are awesome songs, and you can't fuck with Can't Hardly Wait.

I think Blotto are on that tribute album aren't they? We put them on over here last weekend and they did a Replacements cover which I have to admit I very much enjoyed.

yeah they did 'Color me Impressed' on the tribute album. when they played Tampa a year or two ago, they forgot how to play it but remembered how to play 'Nowhere is my home' and Russ from the Tim Version sang it (that's the song they did for the album). Ben Snakepit was also playing bass for them at the time.

BTW for those that don't know:
The Tim Version got their name from the Replacements song: Can't Hardly Wait (The Tim Version)

I didn't know that. I always put an emphasis on the "m" in their name when I say it for some reason.

I just spun Stink a couple of times, which was probably time far better spent.
