I know there was a poll about this last year, but, i just wanted to say that before the Fest 5 and 6, I was very ANTI Stage Diving, but now I couldn't be a bigger supporter. I've come to realize there isnt one moment in life where a stage dive isn't appropriate. I want to see 5 stage dives per song, per band, per set, and every show happening at the Fest this year.
And yes, at the Plan-It-X stage when Paul Baribeu or Matty Pop Chart are playing, I want mad fucking stagedives.
lets secure a Guinness record for most stage dives in a weekend, or something
Thoughts?

you should totally get the people from guiness record books in on the fun. just like that movie Field of Dream- if you build it they will come. If you dive it they will record it!
I'm in the same boat you are about stage dives. Before seeing the stage dives at the Fest last year I'd gotten so acustomed to going to shows and knowing there is a chance there will be people who don't stage dive but rather just jump with all their weight onto one or two people in the crowd. But that's not the worst of it because even though that style of "diving/jumping" is somewhat shitty it beats the hell out of the times I've been taking a photo and some dickhead behind me jumps of a railing and on to my neck and calls it stage diving or head stomping. FUCK THAT.
maybe i'm old fashion but I've never even thought twice about the endless bloody lips, deviated septum, broken finger, and one set of black eyes I got from shows because I wasn't hurt but you drive your knee into my neck/head to break your fall then i'm a grouch and i was pissed about that all week. i guess i was still pissed about it until i saw all the beautiful fun at the Fest. see there's nothing the Fest can't cure (hangovers included)!

Stage dives for bands like Municipal Waste, Paint it Black and such are totally appropiate! I just don't get it when people do it during bands like Baroness or PMFS

this is a good point. Because once you have executed a great dive, its time to get the fuck down...the more you let yourself get passed around, the higher and higher you climb on the douchebag totem pole.
This ain't no 311 Concert, folks.

holy hell dude get out of my thoughts! i was about to edit my post and mention that when I was typing what i typed I was thinking mostly about at Fest last year when I went to see Paint it Black at Common Grounds at Fest and obviously i got to see Municipal Waste before hand and holy shit as fun as Paint it Black's set was there was no topping Municipal Waste - i think i saw a guy with a boogie board there!! those guys deserve to have a CD named The Art of Partying because their shows and the people that listen to them live up to it completely!
but when I went up to gainesville just to see paint it black/new mexican disaster squad at The Atlantic i felt like i was at the Fest all over again because the stage dives were incredible and Dan Yemin brings such an energy to the show when he mixes it up and jumps into the crowd and without missing a beat is all the sudden back on stage and at the other side now singing with the crowd.
live shows like that are why after last year I knew i would never miss the Fest ever again.

I wasn't too familiar with that band and I wouldn't imagine an atmosphere of stage diving like Municipal Waste but wasn't Planes Mistaken For Stars last show in Gainesville at the Fest, I could see going bat shit crazy for a band I liked if it was their last hoorah before breaking up.

I think Beau Beau's dive during the Avail set last year has to be the winner.

stage dives for PMFS depends on what they play. Some of their ragers are totally stage divable, but the dirges, not so much.
also, totally agree about diving VS surfing. A well executed stage dive needs to have the momentum only slowed down, but holding people up so they can be king of the pile? fuck that.
Of course sometimes you just happen to stay up for a litlte while, unintended.
and FUCk head walking, that's retarded.

I got no problems editing something like that up, I'll just add it to the end of the list of stuff to edit:
1. Friday/Sunday at Fest 6
2. Everything from Fest 5
3. Everything from Fest 4
4. Great Stage Dive Moments in Fest History
in all seriousness I had a proposal going for my production class project that was going to be a montage of all the footage we have from The Fest (it's only a couple hundred tapes) unfortunately I had to drop the class at the last minute but I still plan on doing the montage, expected release date would be sometime before Fest 8
