I just saw alkaline trio tonight and the crowd was not only talking through American Steel but barely moved or clapped, on top of all this Matt now has some wah type effect that is really annoying, everyone complains about their new album I never had a problem with it, hell I even was a fan of New Wave but the worst part about bands being on major labels is their music gets out to way more douche bags then it would in the underground and that kind of ruins shows, my computer just made me put a space inbewteen douchebags, that's in spell check now?

i've always hated alkaline trio, so the new album had zero impact on me. the spell check thing is funny though.

band don't have to be on major labels for thier shows to attract too many douchebags, or just too many people in general for my taste.
Of course I want the bands I like to be successful, but I'd really love it if I could see all my favorites in places smaller than Common Grounds, with room to breathe and walk easy.
American Steel > Alkaline Trio

I feel you on that, but the major labels definitely do not help that cause at all , saw the Loved Ones a week back tolerable amount of douche bags, nearly sold out biggest club in town disrespecting American Steel? no thank you

I was thinking about something like this the other day
I really wish I could see AFI live in a small club but they arn't allowed to play anything they've written in the past 10 years
for those who forgot how good they were - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=d_hCYLtmoRQ

I was at this show. I left after American Steel. I saw one of the only dudes outside who knew the words that I could see. Went to give him a fist pound, and he left me hanging looking at me like dick was hanging out of my mouth. Somehow, that pissed me off than all the Alkaline Trio "fans" combined. You can't even give someone a fist pound? What's this world come to really? And Justin (thread author) owes me $4. That's at least two PBR's at the Fest there buddy!

I bought my girlfriend the new Alkaline Trio record on her request for her birthday, and we were in her car on the way to work and it was so bad that we turned it off after about 4 songs. I was pretty depressed about that.. I'm not the kind of person to own all their records and obsess about them, but they've always been pretty awesome i thought.. but that new album is SO bad, urgh. The Nike thing was the final straw. let the mongs have 'em.

I'm grateful to have enjoyed them back in the day when they spent more time drinking with their fans after a set than putting on mascara. The three times I did see them in small venues will always be great memories.
My one regret is ebaying my Sundials 7".
edit: to be slightly on topic I agree that the major label marketing somewhat dilutes the art appreciation. Fuck, before the internet the only way I learned of new bands was reading the credit and thanks in album liners--I'm so glad to have been a part of the pre-internet music discovery team.

It's so true. I'm am like pre-festing 362 days a year. I try to treat everyone at every show as if I were at the Fest. Because that's just the fucking way it should be, you know? This guy just wasn't having it though with his flavor saver. I flipped him off as I walked away, but my heart was still the worse for wear.
