so a guy named Chuck Rogan is having a CD release party at Common Grounds on Sunday, July 20.
if it weren't for the fact that Chuck Ragan's myspace says he's playing San Diego that day, I would swear it was gonna be one of Gainesville's famous secret shows.
www.chuckrogan.com
this shit cracks me up.

this almost makes me want to start a thread for listing knock-off band names, like some lame middle-aged 'musician' making awful xylophone pop in their elderly mothers basement called 'Hot Walter Music'.

I saw this a while ago and looked it up myself. Everyone has been checking to see if its a typo. Hilarious. I was at The Porch on this past Sunday and even then I could hear strangers saying who the fuck is Chuck Rogan?

I thought it was a typo when Common Grounds first posted it on their calendar. But I looked it up too.
Really weird thing is that the guy is from Gville and I've never heard of him. He is having a FREE CD Release show with FREE beer and FREE pizza. What?!!?
I think it is a sick and pathetic ploy to get "the sinners" to listen to Christian Country/Rock.
Did anyone notice that while there are some lyrics to his songs there isn't actually ANY music to listen to ANYWHERE? But yes I found the words "Jesus, faith, prays, sinner, saint, the meek, try belief, and bible" all in the lyrics.
Now THAT has me suspicious!
I expect priests there to save us Gville sinners and hot nuns handing out non-alcoholic beer?

in the event that I have no other plans that day (very likely) and any Gville locals want to meet up to eat free pizza, I'll come hang out.

Who knows, it could happen guys, I'll keep you posted. Guess they aren't having Swinging Doors at CGs that night though which sucks since it is just starting up again this Sunday.
But yeah, I admit it, I added it to my calendar because I'm curious even if me and that Jesus guy don't get along too well. I mean he loves me and I don't really even want to be friends. I could just avoid him like plenty of other people, like I do on any other regular night out.

Haha, a Fest board meet-and-greet... paid for by the lord! OK, I'll stop. There are bound to be a few hundred people or so I'm pissing off.

I grew up Presbyterian, which for my money is hands down the BEST mainstream Christian denomination. Very liberal minded policies, and a scholarly approach to faith, interpretation, and issues.
but over the past 5 or 7 years, I've really been feeling my Jewish roots pretty hard. (my dad is a full on Jew, but an avowed athiest, and never really taught me much about it). So i've done my own research on Judaism, and it's something I think I can jibe with.
don't know if I'll ever actually convert, but either way, I like debating with Christians occasiionally, for shits and giggles, and one of the tactics I love to throw at them is questioning why they think the Jews are wrong about so many things (evolution, the book of genesis, old testament law, literal interpretations, the role of the messiah, etc)

on a somewhat similar note for ridiculous shows is anyone going to the Harry and The Potters show at common grounds? for some reason I think if I drank A LOT before going I might enjoy it, especially because it takes a ridiculous amount of upbeatness to enjoy Math The Band

ha I saw harry and the potters at a venue without a bar and I drank a 40 in the parking lot and I danced around with 14 year old kids. Very fun time
