i like darker ales, mostly porters, dunkelweizens, some stouts... London porter, zwyiec, and flying dog imperial porter
I FINALLY got my economic stimulus check today, so I might be irresponsible and actually try to help the economy by going to Gainesville this week, and buying ingredients for a batch of beer. I haven't made a batch in about 18 months, I really miss brewing.
My favorite style is IPA, but close behind that is dark stuff, like porters and stouts. I also really love the flavor of Rye in beer, more breweries should use it.
ATTENTION PENNSYLVANI FESTER-
Bring me some beer from the Lancaster Brewery. Specifically the Amish Four Grain Pale Ale, and the Hop Hog IPA.

Only two places I go to in Gville even have cider on tap though. Common Grounds and Market St pub I take it? The Atlantic and Mothers (or the Shamrock as it was called) both had cider on tap during Fest 5 but no such luck last year. Maybe you should run around and warn all the bars there's gonna be a Brit invasion so they should stock up on the loopy juice!
Actually, Common Grounds and Durty Nelly's (AKA Durty Nelly's Irish Pub). You NEED to check out Nelly's, I have a feeling you'll LOVE it.

Does anyone even serve Guinness at the Fest? Seems too slow. I'd feel like an ass asking for it.
I don't know how serious they'll take me about the "Brit invasion" because I'm usually a liquor drinking girl.

Yeah I've been meaning to check out that place but for one reason or another I've never got round to going in there. I'll make a point of it this time though. Always good to know there's somewhere I can get a cider in an emergency...we drank them out of it at Market Street last year and I wasn't happy as there was still a whole evening of Fest left to go!

Crobar in Glasgow is dead too. I didn't even realise it was a chain. Assuming it is / was.

We are talking about the dingy little metal bar that was almost impossible to breath in right? The only good thing about that place is they had Poison Idea on the jukebox. That said I have had some pretty mental nights in there over the years.
Yeah apparently it's closed down. The new Intrepid Fox opened not too far away and it's a huge two storey metal bar with pool tables, patio/smoking area etc. so I guess it pushed the crobar out of business when the smoking ban came in.
Kenny, was the Scottish one a metal bar too?

I work in a brewpub in MA, help brew there sometimes, and homebrew.
we should have a punkrock beer/cider homebrew swap or a bring your own regions local beers or something...
especially if people can get near Gville a day or two early so we can recover for the rock n roll!!!!
anyone a fan of flemish/belgian sour ales or barleywines?

I have ordered Guinness at The Fest many times. But then, I'm a total beer snob.
once I even turned down free beer from Shane Haven, because I hate corona. (actually, i would have gladly accepted it, but I had to go drive an hour and work the night shift for 8 hours right after the show)

anyone a fan of flemish/belgian sour ales or barleywines? pre-fest beer swap is such an excellent idea, if people can bring me stuff on my wishlist and good diverse homebrews, I would be almost as excited for that as for The Fest itself. not into flemish sour ales (Duchesee de Bourgogne is OK, but I haven't liked any others i've tried) and I'm really kind of ambivelant about Belgian beers in general. However, I do like some Belgian-style beers made in the US. Stoudts Triple is great, and Avery makes a lot of good Belgian style stuff. I fucking love barleyiwines though. One of my favorite beer styles, right above Octoberfest, and right below porters/stouts. #1 style though is IPA. right now I'm drinking Xingu for the first time. it's a schwarzbier, made in fucking brazil of all places. I've seen it at sores for years, but only just now finally tried it, on the reccomendation of a friend. now, to save effort, I shall cut and paste a couple of posts I already made on another board tonight. Philcore wrote: I just poured my first bottle of Xingu. There was a ton of sediment, so I had ot swirl real hard to get it all. Made my glass overflow a bit, I really need to get my proper beer glasses out of storage.
Smells great. Nice and smooth, but the mouthfeel is very thin. Head fades at a steady clip, but leaves a lot of lacing. Reminds me of Turbodog, but not as heavy. Very dark, but has a light feel to it. Slightly sweet, but not too much, which is good because I usually don't like sweetness in my beer, but this sweetness works well. Several very subtle flavors in there, with no particular one dominating. mild chocolate, very mild roastiness.
Would drink again. A good session beer. Philcore wrote: I think this might be the darkest lager I've ever had.
ratebeer.com says it is only 4.4%, but holy shit it is hitting me hard. beeradvocate.com says 4.7, but that's still way weaker than most of what I drink.
I'm on my second bottle, and I'm pretty darn buzzed.
maybe those sites are wrong. I couldn't find any percentage on the packageing. maybe I should have eaten first (I ate between first and second bottle). Maybe I just drank them too fast, since it goes down easy. Maybe all that sediment in the bottom has still been fermnting. maybe they changed the recipe recently.
typing is hard.

oh wow. so it must have only been recently that it shut down. cos i lived across the road from the new intrepid fox up until december last year. that is so sad. was such a funny but often horrible place to hang out.

it may not be the fanciest, rarest beer in the world but Common Grounds had Newcastles for $3 last night... hopefully the price remains the same until the Fest

i was in portland for a night in 2006 and i sat at the rogue brewery drinking every beer. i only bought 3 or 4, but you can have 4 8 oz samples at a time, so i tryed everything that way. rogue is great.
another good one is bristol brewery, colorado springs. i used to have a house across the street and i love the beer.
